So, we've had several pages with barely a mention of the 718, just I love my 981GTS so much I'd like to fk my 981 up the pipes.
Go back to the 981 GTS thread ... and let this die
Yep, which is exactly the reason we whinge about the sound of the 718.......so they are all more relevent posts in this thread than yours. Your point was what exactly ? ...... that you don't like the thread, tough, don't read it.Go back to the 981 GTS thread ... and let this die

Here is a recent review of the 718 GTS from motoring Australia- 2018 Performance Car of the Year -if you don’t want to sit through it all you can skip ahead - 16:30 718 GTS finished 3rd. Go back to the 981 GTS thread ... and let this die

Ps I’d be in a spyder if they sorted the roof out, great cars. However the roof is only slightly easier than the murcielago which was a nightmare and I swore I would never get another roof that required you to get out of the car again.
I avoided the 987 Spyder due to roof, but car was fun.The 981 roof isn’t hard at all, but yes you do need to get out of the car of course. I think it’s better than the Lambo roof which I seem to remember is very poor?
Spyder is hard to beat. If the new model has a GPF then the 981 Spyder is probably now a keeper.

All PDK 981s have the same ratios which give about 40 in 1st , 70 in second and 100 in third. Arguably they could be lower with advantage - but manual cars have higher ratios and are widely criticised for them. 7th is very long - about 3k rpm at 100mph and the 2.7 in particular struggles to pull it - its a cruising ratio in the 3.4 too and you really need to change down to overtake decisivley at motorway speeds even with the bigger engine,
In which case the idea that GTS and S owners are missing out on wringing out their engines (meanwhile DJMC is revving the nuts of his without receiving speeding tickets) vs 2.7 owners is utter rubbish then?jonttt said:

Get a grip you sad little wierdo. I don’t like lasagne, but I don’t troll Jamie Oliver’s forum every night about what I don’t like about lasagne
You are a odious twerp that seems to have no life at all and seems to think the most defining point in your sad life is getting a car with dual zone air con. Your on every forum every night whining like someone with mental health issues about a car that your never going to buy ? Honestly why ? Do you not have a family or any friends or do you just have serious issues going on ? It’s pathetic

Chill guys, some don’t like the 718. Fine by me, love mine but don’t feel the need to argue about which is best. Relax, if you like the 981 cool by me. To say this is definitely a “first world problem” thread is putting it mildly.
I’ll still waive even if mine’s only a 4 cylinder!
Indeed. Still a great car.I’ll still waive even if mine’s only a 4 cylinder!

Johntt will probably spit on you and mock you for not having dual zone air con, then go back to his house and spend 4 hours whining about a car he will never own and how he doesn’t like it. The guys a clown plain and simple. I don’t like Lilly’s .... just on my way to a flower forum to spend 6 months whining about my lack of love for them. I’ll spend 5 hours a night to try to get the point across. They guy has mental health issues . WowI’ll still waive even if mine’s only a 4 cylinder!
Just checked and dual zone air con is one of the things I did choose so reckon I’m safe.
I’ve owned all sorts of stuff, not really a collector and rarely connect with a car emotionally, have my fun and move on. Jon has a view, can’t fault that but for now my 718 sits in the garage, comes out to play and puts a smile on my face. Do I miss the flat 6, not really, was a big Merc AMG more fun, sometimes, Will I stop smiling? Nah!
Is this thread definitive! Don’t be daft, I’m sure Jon knows that too. Suns out, roof down, what’s not to love?
🤪

I think the point being made is that if wring the engine out on an S then much of the time you will be going too fast because it accelerates much quicker. The 2.7 is much slower so you need to work it harder to make good progress. The 2.7 is a sweeter engine so some perfectly reasonably prefer it.bcr5784 said:

Hmmm, not so sure about "sweeter", but you certainly have to rev the 2.7 before much happens. The 3.4 is a much more accessible engine, way more low-end torque for lazy town centre high-gear pootling, and it sounds awesome at any rpm, very hard to ignore it from about 5500 to 7000. In a good way.JonA65 said:

Now here is a guy with self confidence, who knows what he likes and does not need the approval of others. Enjoy the car ;-)I’ve owned all sorts of stuff, not really a collector and rarely connect with a car emotionally, have my fun and move on. Ps and to clarify my “issue” with dual air con is not as you imply but is rather with Porsche for having the worst description of an option ever. New customers to Porsche expect a high cost car to have climate control as standard not simple air con hence many are left disappointed when there brand new expensive car arrives and they find out it does not have climate control.
With regard to being on the forum every night, yes there are times when I’m on forums quite a bit, its light relief for me as I have a stressful job. Yes I do have a family, yes I do have friends and no I don;t have serious issues going on that my psychiatrist is not confident can be resolved following treatment. As a heads up I’m traveling to Mexico next week for 2 weeks, then France for a while. I’ll have plenty of time to post up on here if I feel the need ;-)
I bet you have lots of friends, I bet they all agree with you as that makes their lives easier lol
Chill man, I don’t like the 718, I would never own a 718, in fact I’ve just booked my 981 in for a service and specifically asked my OPC NOT to give me a 718 but its not a crime, no one died, you don’t need me to agree with you to live your life, give someone a hug, you will feel better ;-)
Edit:
Hey Ruf, I’ve just looked at your 8 posts on Pistonheads, most of them aimed at me on various threads, you a fanboy ? Here is a tip for you, stick with pasta threads as you have made zero contribution re cars and I feel your a little out of your depth ;-)

The biggest shock to me after driving away my 981 CGTS on collection day was how little torque there was compared to my 718 CS lol.Si-3PO said:

The 3.8 in the GT4/Spyder probably helps this a little, though I suppose the NA flat six is in the cayster is never going to be as torquey as a turbo will.bcr5784 said:
In truth even the base 718 will show a clean pair of heels to a 981 S for much (most?) of the time by virtue of its superior torque.
I don't think that's "truth", there may be a tiny on-paper advantage, but out on the road it will be negligible. And the 981 sounds so glorious that you actively want to rev it out, unlike the unholy din made by the ill-advised four cylinder 718.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
