Interesting to read others car journeys to Porsche, and the trip down memory lane.

My first car in 1990 was a '84 A Reg MK2 Fiesta 1.1L which I cherished for the next 2 years. The following cars came along after.....

1992. Fiesta 1.4S (87E)
1994. Escort RS Turbo (88F)
1996. Rover 216 GTi TC (91H)
1996. Fiesta 1.4S (88F) Knockhill special
1997. Cavalier SRi (90H)
1997. Fiesta XR2 (84B) another Knockhill special
1997. Astra GTE (89F)
1999. Rover 216 GTi TC (90H) again
2000. Calibra 2.0 16v (91H)
2002 to 2004 No car - moved to USA
2004. Golf GTi (97P)
2006. Civic Type R (55) still own this
2006. VW Passat Estate (99S)
2010. PORSCHE 944 S2 !! (92J)
2011. PORSCHE 996 Turbo (02) still own this
2012. Mercedes SLK 350 (04)
2015. Fiesta ST (15)
2017. Focus RS (17)
2018. BMW Z4 (65)

Thought I'd take a more grahic approach. The first and second photos are likenesses I found, but the Golf and Boxster are my actual cars. Had the Golf as my daily driver for nearly 24 years. These four have been, without gaps, my first 33 year of motoring! No thoughts of selling the 981 yet.

My 981 Boxster S is the first car I have owned.
The first car I had use of was my father’s Toyota Camry in 1995 & ‘96. Then there was 20 years* when I didn’t drive and then from August 2016 until getting the Boxster this year I had use of my wife’s SLK.

  • Was not in prison. Simply moved back from the US in ‘96 and for most of the last 20+ years I lived in central london.

Here's my lot

91 Escort 1.4 L - Broke every week with a wheezy CVH
93 Escort XR3i - More reliable but completely knackered suspension
98 Passat 1.8 non turbo - Lowered, slight body kit but slow as a slow thing
2008 Passat 2.0TDI - Company car
1983 Porsche 944 - Found abandoned in a garage and slowly rebuilt to get it back on the road, still own it
1988 Porsche 944S - Bought for cheap with a dead engine. Fixed up and sold on when the floor rusted out, still going strong
96 Skoda Felicia - bought for £300 when the Passat had a Transit embedded in the front on Christmas day, sold when the MR2 arrived
90 Toyota MR2 - bought on the cheap, fixed up and sold on
2007 Mondeo 1.8 TDCI - Bought to run when the company car went back
2002 Boxster 2.7 - Bought for cheap after failing an MOT and now my daily driver

The last two ...... still in ownership

The most memorable .... TVR Vixen ( Had to go when first Daughter arrived ..... carry cot would not fit in the back ) Daughter now 43 .. Did I make the right decision ?? She had a Cortina 1600 cc engine ( the Vixen not the Daughter ) .

.... Porsche 968 Coupe ( spent thousands £ 35K on upgrades and improvements over many years .... great fun ) . Much regret selling but had to finance the Cayman S . It's still around the City of London but with a different Reg. I think .

Excluding a heap of daily stuff, the list is pretty short and uneventful.

1.4 SR Nova
Escort GTI
Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 (Bought age 19, thought i was a rockstar with 350bhp biggrin)
Subaru Impreza STI (Bought at 21 - Ended up with 575bhp - Still own and labour of love/hate)
Clio 182 (favorite hot hatch of the lot - id buy another in a heartbeat if i could find a good one)
Mini Copper JCW GP1 -#622 (Biggest heap of junk ever - fun to drive once you added some 17s and turned the god awful TC off. Worst build quality of any car ive owned)
Fiesta ST Mountune 165 (Looks good, gutless but does 40mpg, so okay as a daily hack)
Cayman R - (Green/manual/buckets/spyders)

Morris Mini 1000 - painted black from the original mustard yellow.
Fiat Uno Turbo ie Mk1 - white. Lethal lift off oversteer.
Lancie Delta Integrale 8V - Graphite, loved that car but cost a fortune to keep on the road, always something going wrong with it.
Honda Accord 1.8 saloon - first company car. So dull all I can remember is the colour.
Rover 400SLi 1.6 - second company car. Dull - wrote it off on the A329 near the M3.
VW Bora TDi - third company car. Well built but engine blew.
BMW 318ci - fourth company car. Dog c*ck red. Underpowered but looked nice.
Jaguar X-type estate - Green. OK.
BMW 520D Touring - Blue. Fifth company car. Solid.
Porsche 996 Millennium Special Edition. First fun car since the 'Grale. Confusing spec but more of a GT than a sports car.
Audi A4 2.0SE Diesel. Metallic Brown. Sixth company car. Dull.
Porsche 987 Cayman S - White. Unicorn spec. PDK was good to begin with but eventually became a bit uninvolving to drive.
Porsche Cayman GT4 - Guards Red. Now hat's more like a proper sports car.
BMW 520D Touring - Blue. Sixth company car. Solid.

Still got the last 2. Not sure if there's anything that I would swap the GT4 for at the same price point unless the 718GT4 is a big step on and I get a slot.

Morris Minor to pass my test and first car.
Austin Mini Cooper Mk1.
VW Beetle 1303.
At which point the late 1980s had arrived and it was time to live the yuppie dream with the recent introduction of easy credit. My partner aquired a red VW Golf GTI Mk2 along with big hair and shoulder pads and I acquired a 911 3.2 Carrera Sport in red of course to go with my Next suit and Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
