From my experience in a PDK equipped car the hillhold only activated on a sufficient gradient. It does so automatically and does not active when you push the brake pedal harder. I could be wrong, it may be an subconsciously press the pedal harder on a hill, but I don’t think so.

On the 718 it holds automatically on a gradient or you can push the pedal in to activate it.

Ah, I can see where the confusion has arisen. I wasn't meaning hillhold, I was meaning autohold which is what other manufacturers call braking when stationary in D, say at traffic lights. Also mine is PDK, manual may be different? 911 defo has autohold if you press hard on the brake pedal while stationary. My Golf R has it, and you can have it on or off to suit.

So has the 718 got it in PDK?

Edit: You've answered the question Pinball, cheers.

Eh? What am I doing wrong then? I tried it as soon as I got home from the PEC to no avail.
I've found it 'inconsistent,' though I think it's just down to the angle of slope. I would have thought that if the car starts rolling backwards then the autohold should engage but nope! Now I reach for the handbrake and if I notice the holds come on I stop. As previously stated I would rather the button somewhere a little more accessible. I'm sure it's not beyond the wit of Porsche to eliminate an risk of accidental engagement that might result from an easier to reach spot.

As I sit here now thinking about it, I think the Handbrake is the only irritation I have with the car.

It wouldn’t matter where they put the button if you had to pull it to activate.

AFAIK "hold" only works on an uphill slope which would be sufficient to overcome my 981 PDK gearbox's "creep" and have the car roll back otherwise. A green "hold" icon appears in the speedo. It does not work any other time by stomping on the brake pedal. Manual cars may differ.

My E-Class had the best autohold where I could brake to a halt then press the pedal again firmly to engage "hold" which is useful in an auto when stopping on level or sloping ground at lights etc.

Here's a weird thing...

Driving an 18 plate 718 loaner two weeks ago, it's sat nav didn't know about a new bit of road built 2017 passing Coventry airport and wanted me to come off it up to the old roundabout then go back onto it again. But... my 2014 981 nav does know about the new bit of road and keeps me on it? Could it be my car has been updated without me knowing? Surely I'd have been charged for such an update by my OPC?

Oh... and while on nav, I found the 718's slower to set a destination.
I’d guess the 718 was also considering real time traffic when calculating the route.

I continued on the new road as it was clear. Coming off, up to the roundabout, would have added minutes. But it could have been different a few minutes earlier perhaps?

One of my pet hates IS creep. It's something you are more or less stuck with on torque converter automatics. It wastes petrol - but at least with a torque converter all you are "wearing out" is the oil. With a dual clutch box you waste petrol AND add extra wear on the clutch. Given the huge cost of PDK box repairs (replacements) it's something I'd rather not have. Doubtless there are those wedded to autos who rely on it - but if that is an issue at least make creep on/off configurable

2014 Cayman S, owned since new.

Happily my only gripes are of virtually zero importance and are very minor in the scheme of things. Basically, this car is brilliant. But if I have to list my gripes, here goes:

1. Handbrake switch position, ie having to lean forward to engage it.
2. Handbrake push to set - I still can't get used to this, lol. Totally counter-intuitive.
3. Indicator and lights stalks - unbelievably cheap and bendy feeling.
4. Rear wing up/down switch - I don't understand why this isn't a simple one touch to raise, one to lower. Seems overly complicated when in manual mode.
5. Having to press the "Confirm" message on the PCM each time the car is started.

Ummm.... that's it! smile

It is just a single touch up and down.....unless your are moving at less than 15km/h, then you have to keep it pressed to help prevent little fingers being squashed.

Very little with our 981 BGTS but :-

1. Cheap and nasty feeling steering column stalks and seat adjustment lever. One of the few regrets I have from speccing up my car was not opting for the adaptive sports seats.

2. The totally useless analogue speedo. I like the big central tachometer with integrated digital speedo. Probably be resolved with the next generation cars that will no doubt have fully configurable digital instrument display like Audi / VW currently have.

3. Door storage bins not as useful as the ones in 987.

4. No storage slot in the door sill for the neat Porsche umbrella that the 987 had.

5. Cabin seems more draughty at speed than the 987 was.

Yes, indeed, I was talking about low speed. Cheers!

Have you found the pull out section, below the armrest. Took a few months before I found it.

Yes, thanks but as I recall the storage bins not as practical as those on 987

I like the roll top bins behind the seats but they can rattle.

re 4: This puzzled me for a while and was driving around one afternoon with it partly up because I'd shown some one the (for me) pointless button, and wasn't aware it hadn't gone down all the way - Oh the shame of driving around with my spoiler (it is a spoiler and not a wing isn't it?) manually put up. Anyway I digress. I think it's a safety issue to prevent finger getting trapped.

re 5: Huh? I admit to having been away from my Spyder for a few months now but in memory I only remember turning on or off ....... Oh wait. Is this a Sat. Nav. Thing? smile I use a Garmin.
