A simple Service Bulletin from the USA. Not much room for Porsche to argue fitness for purpose, not that they have so far.

Interesting, exactly the same gearbox as used on the 2016 Cayman S and GTS if PTV is specced. You'd hope the same applied to those cars too, not just the GT4...

Many UK GT4s including mine have an irritating gearbox whirring at certain speeds.

Many 981 Spyders including mine have a juddering clutch.

Could be down to this fault.

correct the spot welded 3rd gear pops under load when braking on a down shift from 4th to 3rd.

the cog then just spins, the car will drive in the other gears,

This is really old news, or am I missing something? It has been done to death on Rennlist.

Whilst this is indeed old news given the threads on Rennlist, and the database of 80+ cars that have had third gear failures my question is this.

As Porsche have put this advisory on paper, how will it affect gearbox replacements once the warranty period has expired? Given that they have admitted it's aknow technical/manufacturing fault are they likely to replace failed gearboxes at no cost?

That was indeed behind publishing the Bulletin, it does rather go to fitness for purpose and may be useful for owners in the event that Porsche change their current very good response to failures.
