Saw this on the way to work this morning. It looked like one of the GT cars from the back, had the front wings off the new vantage and the bonnet from a GT12. Any ideas folks?

Development cars are usually fairly recent vehicles, but this one shows as being first registered in December 2013.

The public record does not show engine capacity, but it has become normal not to reveal those details now.

It’s not a v600. The bonnet was from a gt12. The only odd thing out of place were the wings on a 5 year old car. It shot into the lay-by as soon as they saw it was having its pic taken....

If it was a V600 AMR roadster, why did it have the gt12 bonnet and not the one with all the holes in like the show car coupe?

Its a prototype v600 roadster . It’had a very hard life and changed many times , ignore the vents in bonnet it’s just a prototype

After thinking that the very last Vantage Mk1 cars (V600 Coupe) are about to be produced, now perhaps we have the exciting prospect of a different very last car.

Interesting that they need to run a prototype. Why?

Because it is a fully Homologated car that meets all the requirements made of car manufacturers by the markets that these are sold in.

But what's different in the running gear to require a prototype?

If it is a V600 Roadster prototype then presumably the owners, who are paying very significant sums for their cars, would like to know they have been properly set up and handle well. They are wide bodied cars and will be different to both the GT12 and the V12 AMR. Especially for the roadster where there is only one GT12 car out there and the terms of that purchase may be, in theory, that the development work on that car cannot be replicated or used on any other special edition.

As it has been explained to me the last of the current Vantage cars to be produced will be the V600 series. There will be 14 cars, 7 Coupes and 7 Roadsters. I thought that had been made clear in their press release of 8 May? WTDoom has confirmed it is a V600amr roadster prototype and, let’s face it, he should know! No new news here getmecoat

Oh dear, thank you Ian, you are quite right.

I had thought that the one subject which I can still remember, is Aston Martin trivia.
I have failed on that now. Slippery slope time.

It can get quite tricky about various iterations of a particular model and at which point there have been so many deviations from the base model that a new homologation is required. The DVLA in the UK is slightly more lax in its interpretation of the rules than other agencies. I had a lot of trouble with registering a Jaguar Project 7 in Germany a couple of years back and the process lasted 3 months as Jaguar could not provide a specific Certificate of Conformity which the TÜV demanded. The same happened to the Singer Porsches which have only very recently obtained TÜV approval.

Good luck with the V600. Awesome project and a perfect way to send off the V12V.

It does seem ltd edition models are becoming more and more common place to shift units and give an air of exclusivity.
