Saw these two parked next to each other yesterday, 981 Boxster S in guards red and 718 Boxster S in Carmine red - not often you see the two reds together. The 718S looked absolutely stunning, the styling is starting to grow on me now but this was a particularly outstanding looking car.

Sober thought though, when I got home I priced the 718S up on the configurator and it came out £3,000 MORE than our 981GTS cost new - and our car has a host of expensive kit on it including PCCB!

Have to say I actually think the 981 looks better there. All be it not the st wheels. Massively prefer the 981 front end.

The difference between my guards 981 and tornado red Golf is quite similar. Guards is much brighter in person than the photo implies.

Guards has more of a slight orange shade to it than tornado red, or the photograph - I have that colour on our Golf too.

I think red Porsches have to be Guards - it's an 80s classic colour and massively iconic. Carmine I find a bit Ferrari-ish, although I know it's a well regarded Porsche GTS colour. It's just not for me.

As said above, Guards is bright and orange-ish, Carmine is darker and more moody which suits black accents e.g. wheels.

Many years ago I saw a 930 turbo in Guards Red and the look of that car has stayed with me ever since,I knew that when I eventually had my own Porsche it would have to be Guards Red so this is my 981. I just can’t imagine that if that car had been Carmine it would have had the same effect on me.

If you like a Guards Red Porsche it opens you up to the best bargains in the second hand market. They are always lagging behind in prices.

Not my experience red is quite rare on the 981 Vs others.

Just look at the Porsche approved page the reds always congregate at the lower end of the prices. Silver and black at the top...

Bit more to it than that as I'm sure you realise.

I narrowly avoided buying a Guards PINK 981!

My brother in law didn't. He bought a new GR 997 and sold it weeks later after all the "nice pink car" comments.

You think it's red until you see it...

Not really to be honest. Having bought 4 Porsches through the OPC network over the last 9 years and having a personal penchant for unusual colours (bargain gold cayman, not such bargain Blue 997. 2 and bargain Red 991.1, latest being grey (yawn) 997 gts) I have always benefitted from the fact that the colourful ones are worth less than the plain ones. They all start at the same price, but as the weeks go on and buyers prefer the grey/black examples, the colourful ones are reduced in price until they sell, sometimes they sit on the lot for a few months until someone sees the light. I've discussed this a few times with OPC dealers. Nothing wrong with going for a bright colour, but they undoubtedly are affected by market forces and demand.

We've got a Guards Red 981 Cayman a Carmine Red Macan GTS, a Red Suzuki Swift and up until April last year a Red Skoda CitiGo. Yes we like red. Carmine is a really deep red compared to Guards which I agree with comments made previously looks almost orange when they're sat side by side.

I'm not a fan of grey or silver as they're bit too "middle management" but do like White or Blue as an alternative to red. Black looks great when its clean but the problem is it doesn't stay clean for long.

Yes because not many want one (I like some bright colours but not GR)
