So my Cali pets have faded from black to silver after eleven months of ownership. Been washed about 5 times, once by a local valet. Checked each time that no acidic cleaners were used. Going to take it into PEC and have them looked at. Expecting them to say it’s acid regardless and I can’t prove otherwise. Has anyone else’s calipers faded regardless?

I seem to recall someone experiencing similar around the time of delivery of the first cars.

Mine are fine (10 months) but I've only cleaned them a handful of times using Autoglanz Alkalloy (heavily diluted) which is non-acidic but most of the time I've just blasted them with the pressure washer as the GTechniq C5 sealant does such a good job or used normal car shampoo. The only other product that may or may not have been used is whatever the OPC uses.

However, I reckon if mine fade, it would give me an excuse to get them painted by one of the reputable caliper companies online. That said, I prefer the stealth black look.

I'm sure if you do a search back about 12 months or so, you'll find the previous thread. I'm not sure if that guy had any joy getting them done under warranty though.

Cheers. I’ve had a look round and it seems the non S matte finish calipers are prone to degrading while the gloss S calipers don’t. Sucks a bit for a premium car to have that happening. I guess that’s a question I can raise dependent on the outcome of the inspection.

I have a similar problem my OPC said its because of aggressive cleaners. I don't believe them but they will not do anything about it. Still have an issue regarding tolerance of the sills and the wheel arches seeing the OPC again this Friday - not expecting much, might bring up the calliper issue again.

That’s pretty much my expectation. I’ll hold on and see what they say before unleashing my inner rage smile

Yep, pretty much stripped. Can’t believe even an acid based cleaner would do that after a few washes.

My base 981 calipers went silver after 18 months. No acid cleaner, just AG car shampoo.
I quite like them silver rather than black as they don't stand out as much against the platinum satin wheels and Rhodium paint. I did ask my OPC when the calipers bolts rusted. They said "they all do that sir", as expected.

I've checked with the valet place and they use acid free Autoglym wheel cleaner.

Blimey - if it were me, I'd be kicking up stink. If even you took it to a hand car wash place every couple of weeks I wouldn't expect that to happen (eg my last Golf R got cleaned that way, and the calipers held up fine). Looks like a quality issue to me, and I think it should be for them to prove you have used products that are inappropriate, rather than the other way round.

Been to see my OPC this morning we had a good look around at new cars, it looks like the base models are cast calipers with no apparent coating (I could be wrong) not sure that Porsche will concede on this...

No. Cosmetic issues aren't covered. I already tried with mine.

They did offer to go halves on new front clippers due to the rusty bolts however. I'd just pay £500 for one and they'd supply the other.
I chose to go to Halfords instead and get some rust converter for a DIY fix.

That's my thoughts, probably going to be a different story when I go in no doubt. I'm more in line with the quality issue, personally, just shouldn't have happened.

I think you're right. They're seems to be a gulf of quality between the finish of the s and non s calipers.

I did want to ask you that question on your calipers. Looks like I'm looking at the same outcome.

If you don’t get anywhere just get the callipers sprayed in an acid Green, it’ll look great with Graphite Si!

Out of interest, are you washing them when hot? I did once, when they were mildly warm, with bilberry non acidic wheel cleaner. By the time they’d dried parts of the calliper started to change colour. Luckily I was able to buff them and the colour came back. That said the colour of yours look beyond this unfortunately. Good luck.
