Cayman S 981
2014 42,000 miles
Metallic Silver
20" 991 Turbo Alloys
PDK, Bose, PASM, PSE, Nav, Bluetooth
List price: £40,000
Can't for the life of me find one that well specced, but the mileage is putting me off. Others around it have 25k miles but less spec.

42k is barely run in ! Far better in my view to have one that’s been used occasionally than just sat in the garage.
Price seems high to me though, particularly when you can pick up a 17 plate 718 for early £40s with the same or better performance, plus lower tax and cheaper fuel bills. But why bust the myth of a good nasp... those 981s are the best car ever if you believe all the bullst written on here.

What do you mean? It's all incontrovertibly true. I looked at the spec and thought £35k.
Alloys would put me off as non-standard. Are they the correct size and offset for a Cayman? If not = insurance issues perhaps?
Three years ago I looked at a private sale PGB launch 981S with 13k miles and every option known to man, e.g. PASM; 18 way seats; ACC; Burmeister. It was £40k. Comparitive to yours that one would be perhaps £45k now pro-rata?
Good to see prices are holding, or even escalating, if folks are considering spending £40k on a four year old 981S.

it way too expensive imo
Porsche are known for 8k PA miles, so it's well over the ave miles for a Porsche and the price does not reflect that.
I don't mind miles on cars and I don't mind buying a higher miles car if you know you do low miles and it will come back to you, but buying above ave miles always means you need to get it a lot cheaper.
I tend to not like cars above 60k miles and always would sell a car before it hits 50k , parts do take a turn after that, and if you buy a 42k mile car now and put 8k on it you are then trying to sell a 50k mile car and the market shrinks so fast you would not believe it.
imo stick to cars which have done 8k PA or less, they are far easier to sell and look the norm vs others come sale time.

Glad you agree about the 4 pots. I had a TTS before and whilst a great car and very quick, just didn't "feel" like a sports car. Pros to my V8: the sound.. oh the sound (i have straight through pipes), the power is similar to any other flat engine, it comes in around 4k+ revs, not to mention its 444 bhp NA.
Cons to the V8: The engine is heavy as fk. The only thing it's good at is going in a straight line. It's a muscle car, not a sports car. VERY sluggish at 1-3k revs. MPG sucks balls.
This is going a bit off topic anyways but I'm gonna try and get the cayman down to 38k from 40k. Plus a warranty.
OP, out of interest, is it the spec or the model that interests you? You could grab a beautiful 987.2 S for around the £27k mark (subject to offers) with similar mileage and turbo wheels, PDK, flappy paddle sports steering wheel, Sports chrono plus (mental!) package etc etc. Feel free to pm me since you don't allow emails.
Is it for sale at a main dealer OPC, specialist or a private sale?
If that's an OPC car, probably about right these days, about 5k too rich if it's a private sale.
Having said that, it's not a particularly desirable colour, the mileage is quite high and the spec isn't that exciting. For me to be interested the price would have to be lower but only because i'm putting a discount on it for being rather bland spec.
The prices for 981 GTS with reasonable mileage is c.£55-60k depending on spec, so maybe £40k is a bargain for an S...
On balance, I think you could find a better car for the money.

I paid 7k more for a car with only 8k on the clock, all of that spec plus GTS body kit, sport crono etc. Cayman S 981

You guys think 37k is a reasonable offer then? The 40k is the list price.
It doesnt help that on Autotrader right now in the UK there are only 25x 981 S for sale.
I'm going to offer 37k based on the mileage.

I don't like the 987 body, especially the spoiler. It just looks out dated. The 3 main things I want spec wise is BOSE (i like music), PSE and the 3.4 S model. Alloys i dont give a crap because i'm thinking of going aftermarket anyway.beanoir said:

It's a regular dealer but the cheapest car they have is 30k.. they are a specialist performance car dealer.. If that's an OPC car, probably about right these days, about 5k too rich if it's a private sale.

Fair comment Crispy. You do realise, however, that the spoiler only pops up at over 65 (ish) MPH and is not visible from inside the car? I don't know what it's like on the 981. Unless, of course, you wish to have the spoiler permanently up so that others can see it.Johnniem said:
