Not very long to enjoy it then?...
Clarkson: “There is a rule we devised on Top Gear. Once you are past the age of 27, you can drive alfresco only when it is safe to drive naked. In other words, when no one is looking. Because if people are looking, they will laugh at you.”

If you worry what Clarkson says then you’ve got bigger issues than being concerned about people looking at you! Clarkson: “There is a rule we devised on Top Gear. I've had a 2.7 for 9 months now and done nearly 15k miles in it - coming from a m140i I do miss the overtaking power sometimes, but for UK road driving you can keep your foot down a lot longer than higher powered cars
Interesting comment, I sold my 135i and been hunting for a DCT M2, but now looking at PDK 981.I like my tech etc and would want proper flappy paddles etc. Day to day 981 Vs M2?

PDK is probably the best auto box out there. Depends what your looking for, the M2 is a great car, has back seats, less cabin noise, less drone from an engine behind your head on the longer trip, new tech. As a daily I might go for the M2.
Drone is only an issue with sports exhaust (even off). However tyre roar on coarse surfaces makes listening to music a waste of time on the motorway. PASM equipped 981 rides much better, if that is important. As a daily an Alpine A110 beats both unless you need more luggage space, easier to use infotainment (sounds very good though) or a posh badge. Incidentally if you want flappy paddles on th 981you will have to buy a car with sports steering wheel - believe it or not they are not standard!Edited by bcr5784 on Thursday 13th December 00:25

I thought steering wheel gear changing was standard with PDK? Albeit on the ugly standard and multi-function wheels steering wheel gear changing was achieved using those awful sliding switch things on the wheel spokes rather than the paddles which as you quite rightly state come only with the optional sports steering wheel?
I have the standard multi function wheel on my GTS. I prefer having access to volume and stuff than the sport wheel's looks. Each to their own i guess.I could never figure out the need for two steering wheel offerings on the 981 and 991.1. And the fact that the extended paddles and multifunctions were mutually exclusive. You would think all the wiring would already be in place for a MF wheel with extended paddles (as previous poster stated even the standard wheel had gear change buttons which were a bit counter-intuitive unless you raced 2-stroke karts.)

Might aswell have got a manual
Nonsense. the gear ratios of PDK are better and the changes that PDK makes are faster and smoother than even the most skilled driver can manage. Personally would have chosen PDK even if it didn't have an automatic mode at all (though it is handy in traffic)Edited by bcr5784 on Friday 14th December 09:05
I literally cannot understand why anyone with such a fantastic sports car would not want PSE. It makes absolutely no sense. Unless you are really old, ill or just don't like driving pleasures.
Why would you not want that aural delight behind you!!!!!
Ok they are perfectly fine without it and still sound lovely but I simply would not buy another Porsche without PSE now. (Unless it wasn't warranty applicable anymore and I was putting another system on it). Noise is precious and it's part of what makes a sports car special.

I would not describe myself as really old, ill or just not liking driving pleasures. But it's on my 981 BGTS and I don't like it. Even when switched off the valves still open up at certain speeds and throttle openings. The OPC has confirmed that's the way it's supposed to work. It's all a bit of aural willy waving to me. Just when you want to make rapid but somewhat stealthy progress the valves open and the car gets noticeably louder. I've taken to wiring the valves shut; that allows plenty of sound into the cabin, both from the exhaust and the mechanical noises of the engine itself. Why would you not want that aural delight behind you!!!!!

+1 - and pouring petrol down the exhaust to simulate the carburation maladies of the past offends my engineering sensibilities .V800MJH said:

I had it on a 997s and found it a bit childish....slightly embarrassing too!Why would you not want that aural delight behind you!!!!!

I had an early 997 c2s with the standard exhaust and when cold it made a right racket. Early morning starts in my garage woke up the whole culdesac. I only found out chatting to my neighbour a year after selling the car.ATM said:
The gearbox is so good I very rarely use the lever things. I use the volume control on the steering wheel a lot more.
I think Porsche were onto something with the sliders, it means you can go up and down with either hand, and yes the volume control is a lot more useful than having a paddle to change gear. That said I think PDK is an awful gearbox so I can well afford to me magnanimous about which steering wheel is best
