Has anyone had a windscreen replaced with an OEM screen by a Porsche dealer? I'm looking to hear all experiences, good or bad, as I'm considering buying a new stock Cayman that requires a new screen and I'm not sure if it is something I should be concerned about or not.

I’ve had a number replaced at two different OPCs with both good and bad experiences. I understand that most or all OPCs sub the work out so you’d need feedback on the particular OPC/sub-contractor you’re planning to use.

Interesting. I'm told it would be Porsche trained technicians so assumed in house. Can you expand on what the issues were with the bad experiences please.

The OPC will more than likely be using a sub contractor for the work. In fact, I'm 99% certain they will.

You are correct. I've just called the service department at the dealer anonymously and they have confirmed it is sub contracted.

Is the sub contractor likely to be "Porsche trained" as I have been told the fitter would be?

A number of things can go wrong - damage to the dash: damage to the paintwork around the screen (or indeed damage which you can't see, where the screen is glued down); untidy / leaky seals (there was a thread on this recently); damage to eg GPS antenna/related gubbins (lots of threads on this). Glassman will be able to tell you more (or see his blog), but try not to worry!

Also - if you have certain options like PDLS+ the wheel tracking/alignment has to be done after a screen replacement because the camera which runs the system is attached to the inside of the windscreen.

Thanks all. I've decided to let this car go as alternatives are being proposed which will come without this issue.

Entirely your choice but do remember that windscreens are replaced all the time and your unlikely to experience a terminal problem!

If it’s a stock car won’t they replace the screen before you commit?

Windscreen won't be replaced before I commit as it is not in stock and will take a few weeks to source. As there appear to be alternatives I may as well look at them to save potential aggro.
