Yep, a few black cars in my time. Recently had a black Z4 which looked quite sorry for itself with only a few days grime.

Currently have a black Toyota iQ for the commute/shops and that never looks good. hehe
All my black cars looked cracking when clean... which lasts about 10 miles.

Black is one of the worst colours for cleaning. They say with a black car it's only ever clean the day you wash it.

I had a Phantom Black audi and any tiny bit of dust would show. Also water dry marks show on black whereas on lighter colours water streaks don't show.

I would def keep the sports wheels, they are wider and take the newer tyres better and are rare and look better !

it looks great how it is, DON'T swap the wheels to normal ones !!!
I agree. Classics or Carrera S are very common. Your wheels look great.

We have a white BMW and Rhodium 981. Silver is best for dirt, but the white just seems to turn a different shade. Never looks dirty until you start to wash it!

But the flies!!! Come summer they put tiny black dots all over it. White attracts them. A devil to get off.

As you suggest, part of the deal.

For context:
email to vendor said:
I’ve been thinking long and hard and decided PDK isn’t the deal breaker I thought.
I was fixated on a manual because that’s what I’ve always had, and enjoyed. It wasn’t until I stopped and reflected on the test drive I realised I’d actually enjoyed driving despite/because of the auto box. So maybe I can live with it, maybe it’d be better than the manual. Anyway, I’m not ruling it out because of that.
PASM would be great, but again, the drive didn’t suffer for lack of it so maybe it’s something else I could ‘lose’.
You offered to switch the wheels to the Carrera Classic I prefer, so as long as they’re in good nick with decent tyres we have another point in favour.
I still have concerns about the relatively high miles for a three year old Porsche – typically they show 5-6,000 p.a., not the near 12k miles for this one. This also means it’s coming up to a major service in the near future, probably plus plugs and brake fluid. First MOT due next month too.
I’m thinking about all of this and still considering my options…
Is there anything you can think of that I’ve missed or should be thinking about, or anything you can do to ease my decision?

Thanks again for an informative and enjoyable couple of hours – much appreciated.
It was a cheap option for them to include and quell some of my reservations. It cost them next to feck all yet worth maybe £1,000 to me.

WTAF this isn't a GT car ? If I don't add a minimum of 10-15k per annum it's a wasted opportunity imo . smile

I use my 981 as a daily. Doing around 10k p/a in it. Why? because i didn't pay to have it sat on my drive.

Good for you.
I prefer to use my DD for the daily grind and let that rack up any bills and mileage.
This will still get plenty of use, but for my pleasure rather than stop-start, dull driving it's difficult to enjoy.

That's what I've never understood. Outside of the GT, aircooled and classics, it costs so much each month just to have it sat depreciating in the garage doing nothing if you're doing minimal mileage I'd rather just run the one car, as each additional one usually has so many associated fixed costs not to mention the dealer spread.

Still, each to their own and all that.

Yep, that was me.
Tried the 718 first and quite liked it - very quick. For me though, there's a bit more drama with the 981 - really gelled with it. They both had the same sticker price, the 718 much newer and only 9,000 miles so should probably be the right choice, but I just felt at home in the 981.
Re the welcome, it turns out I know the salesman anyway, CobraChris on here.

How did you get on?

Just posted a thread

Like you I think the 718 was a quicker car but the 981 has a bit more theatre and you always buy newer in the order so I decided to go 981 and prob 718 s next time for the power kick .

Will be flying over again in a few weeks to collect

Trawling YouTube found this video showing access to several service/maintenance areas. Thought it may be of interest to others.

The pad locating bolts are non-replaceable. When my fronts rusted my OPC offered to go 50/50 on replacing the front calipers. I only had to pay £500 for one. I opted to wire brush, rust treat, and "paint" with a permanent marker. Have been fine for 2 years, 25k miles.
Suggest the OP gets his changed before paying. As for silvering, no chemicals on mine and they still went silver. I quite like it compared to black. Stands out less.
