GTECHNIQ paint protection - is it worth doing ?

If you are having it done find a decent detailer who will prepare the paint, then apply the ceramic coating.
It's not a miracle cure but after 8 months mine still beads water away and is very easy to clean. No polishing or waxing required for a great shine, and it is meant to last up to five years.
How much? I was quoted £700 for the same work. Decided against it but still umming ‘n arring. It's not a miracle cure but after 8 months mine still beads water away and is very easy to clean. No polishing or waxing required for a great shine, and it is meant to last up to five years.
£550-£750 is the typical range for a whole car, a bit cheaper with G-techniq, a bit more with some high end sealants.
Just paid £550 to have a new Volvo V60 crosscountry done including leather protection, wheels removed and sealed etc, all glass sealed, all plastics protected.
This included a machine polish to get the paint perfect (even brand new cars need the paint sorting)

Hi all,
My 981 Cayman S had GTechniq applied by the dealer approx. 2 years ago - It seems to be performing well with good shine and it's reasonably good at repelling dirt. I've been using C2 after washing to top up the coating.
I've recently noticed the paintwork is not very smooth in places and I have the urge to take a clay bar to it.
Will this strip the ceramic coating?

I'm due to be having my GT4 ceramic coated at the end of May. I use a guy who's ceramic coated my cars for the past four years. He is Gtechniq accredited and has the car for a week for prep and application. Cost will will be £950 and that includes a two stage machine polish, wheels, interior and all glass coated.

So he’s earning nearly £1000 a week and getting free motoring in top flight cars, he’s a clever guy 😄David W. said:

detailing is a good sound business model and has taken off with no shortage of people paying for it.you can always risk your nice job and earn £1k a week doing it if you wish.
With business overheads, eg premises, materials, tax, rates etc you are going to need to do 2-3 cars a week at £1000 per car I would have thought. Plus £1000 per car is at the top end of the pricing.
Doesn't sound massively lucrative unless you get get plenty of customers at the top end of the pricing.

quite the reverse.Doesn't sound massively lucrative unless you get get plenty of customers at the top end of the pricing.
I guess it depends what you want to earn though.
set up Costs etc are very small, you don't need 3 x £1000 jobs a week !!! well you do if you want to earn £200k I guess.
no business rates to pay on small rents and a unit is £8k PA to £15k depending what you want but no reason to spend over £8k.
get some insurance and a pressure washer job done.
quite easy to earn a £50k wage and pick and choose when you work.

You need more than a pressure washer, you need polishers, wide range of cloths, good ceramic coatings are typically over £100 for materials per car, consumables eg polishing mops/pads, spare pressure washer because they break, trade insurance as you have to move cars around, a unit with parking space.
Plus £1000 is top end rates, much work will be lower than that, my guy charges £550 for a new car and £800 for a used one, the ceramic sealant along for the Lotus (IGL Kenzo) was nearly £200 in materials I believe
Thing is the difference between who does it and what levels they go to and can achieve are pretty big, take Rob Tomlin @ Supercardetailing or Glyn O`Donnell @ Elite Detailer, these guys been around many moons, Glyn more so than young Rob but the levels then can achieve are second to none, both top blokes and both car nuts...
You get what you pay for and there are so many products now on the market that its a minefield, as said earlier by 911R, you can have a go yourself and look at your hand work or pay some one for the task.
whatever you go for I'm sure you'll be happy, personally I think front end ppf and ceramic coating is the way forward.

agree the devil is in having the car detailed and that's the time £££ money part, you can ceramic a car in 1 hour that's the easy bit. It might take 4 days to detail it 1st !
XPEL FUSION PLUS CERAMIC COATING must be the only choice for the xpel PPF most have.
other wise you void your warranty on the PPF !!!

Before they produced their own, Xpel said you could put any ceramic coating on top - they clearly went to the Apple school of up-selling
Yep, people love a warranty though or a warranty refusal. Its all snake oil any way, I bet they are all the same and now outdated due to graphene coatings :-)

nice I might buy a older model 410 when all this blows over.
is that a 400 ?
Thanks Nice but its not a GT3 is that a 400 ?
Its actually am S Sports Racer, but a car park idiot at low speed and Lotus stock issues means it has a 400 front bumper (which I happen to prefer)
I was looking to swap to a 410, but the plans are on hold until CV-19 is over as I have to focus on business and making sure there is still one at the end of the nonsense.
