The gold wheel version looks the best.
in your not so humble opinion...

some of us are a bit more subtle and prefer the satin platinum smile

both look great though.
Exactly.... we have agreed that one of these twins is a little more showy !!
A wheel for every taste :-)

Looking forward to some warmer, drier weather and those engines run in :-)
Get out and drive, Porsche's are all year cars. Dirt washes off!
HELLO......
I think you will see we are out driving them and will continue to do so........ Just be nice when the above occurs ;-)
Don't worry, we will be very nice, as long as you like our yellow GT4. It hates bath time but loves getting mucky smile

Both look stunning but I have gone for the platinum wheels with Gentian blue. I first saw this combo when Mark Webber was reviewing the car and the press shots of the car he was in looked superb so I ordered mine the same. Roll on delivery, not long to wait woohoo

I think it's been mentioned already that the engineering spec of the gearbox is more than 310 ft lbs and the 3.8 engine has already been tuned by P to 991GTS spec without any mention of torque limit on the manual gearbox.
The G50 gearbox on the 964RS was used in dragsters and was reputedly good for 550 ft lbs ...
Hence could this be a virtual GT4 v. GT3 limitation ?

SPOILER ALERT.........SPOILER ALERT shoot
I excitedly made this "mistake" four years ago ...

How exciting also that four years later the GT4 that we feel may not be so different from the 981 version ... is ECOTY 2019 ...

What wonderful cars they are !!

The 911 GTS didn't and doesn't have the same gearbox. It's a seven speed based on a PDK unit. Comparisons with other units are irrelevant.

Do you have a link that shows the engineering spec? I haven't seen it anywhere. All I've seen is Porsche's imposed limit on the cars it uses it in...

The gearbox in the 991.1 GTS (with the 3.8 PowerKit 420ps/325lbft) was the 7-speed - so not the same as our 6-speed.
The powerkitted 3.8 in the 997.2 GTS which had a 6-speed was also peak torque capped @310lbft from 4200-5600 from the factory.

So it a question of what does that do to longevity of the g-box and other components in the chain - but same can be said for any type of upgrade or any use of a product outside of lab conditions.

Chris,

You can’t use a 911 gearbox in a 987/981/718, 911 are mounted forward of engine and mid-engined are mounted aft.

I suspect Porsche expected PDK to dominate thus no development resource for mid-engine gearboxes. I guess the Yanks love of 4 on the floor meant extending the life of the gearbox plus the 3rd gear failures, caused we think by an unwise manufacturing change, highlighted the issue.

It is odd however that even 997S/GTS and later were all 420Nm but perhaps again zero development funds.

GT3s had more torque I think - different gearbox for the Mezger?

Yep - different box for the GT3/RS Mezger vs the cooking 6-speeds in 9x6/9x7 and 981.
Can much more easily swap gear sets/ratios...because race car.
991 GT 6-speed is different again.. from the R onwards because of the engine layout differences as mentioned by gtsralph.

This looks a more realistically priced car and well spec'd too. Probably only a few grand over list.

Doesn’t it just. Front end in particular looks great in Silver. As Twinfan says that’s bugger all premium....given whoever bought that has played the OPC game to get it that’s not worked out well financially.

Good news for people that want to buy one or drive !

Only about £9k over new list exc road tax..Really nice 718 GT4 and makes a total mockery of playing the silly OPC allocation games.

Checking around the 981 6 speed splined box appears to be rated at up to 550Nm ... it's based on the Getrag 466 box, is highly rated by Guard and has been used in the Audi's up to RS4.
In the US it's being used in endurance racing in cars running up to 400 RWHP.
