Checking around the 981 6 speed splined box appears to be rated at up to 550Nm ... it's based on the Getrag 466 box, is highly rated by Guard and has been used in the Audi's up to RS4.
In the US it's being used in endurance racing in cars running up to 400 RWHP.
Cooling is an issue in a mid-engine application by the look of it. Race cars using it are running an additional oil pump to cool it. Maybe not an issue on a road car, but Porsche would appear to think it is?

GT4 already has the additional external transmission cooler.... box checked.

The 466 was used in the 987 generation cars, is it the same for 981 and 718(982). I’ve seen references to G80/81.
In any case we can see that the box can take more than the Porsche implemented 310lbft/420NM.
But it is curious that this particular number seems to pop up a few times.

Porsche could have made some minor token changes to the 981/718 6 speeder, given its a new code name and increased the torque limit easily enough..This is what they basically do with the engines anyway so they could do the same with their manual boxes.
However they chose not do, for reasons only known to themselves. Its still strictly limited to 420Nm (310 lb/ff) probably for homologation and cost reasons.

JCR have just posted a vid of their new silencer replacement for these cars.
Sounds much better, still not on par with 981, as OPF need to stay in place. But good enough to make sound a non-issue particularly in the case of the GT4, where sound Is not a priority for track work.

Impression from the video, is that it’s enough imo.

Would be interested to hear it in person.

GAD engineering are also releasing something similar very soon also. So options are surfacing.

I understand the engine will not rev past 5k when stationary and in neutral, much like the GT3 4k limit. Static test will not be a problem nor likely will drive-by.

My car finally arrived this week into the dealership, however it will be under a cover on the showroom floor until I pick it up on the first week of January.

I plan on using this car as my daily so really looking forward to picking it up in January.

I brought my 1986 911 out to Porsche today, to go view the car, which made the trip extra special. 2 completely different cars, but very similar in other ways.

I need to let the OPC know if I want to put a sticker front plate or a mounted front plate. I think the mounted plate works better on a car like this as it adds another contour?

Is everyone of the view that the 981 exhaust note was simply amazing, because I don’t??! I admit I did enjoy mine whilst accelerating, but the pops and bangs on the overrun were a rather over the top and dare I say, like black alloys, are rather unfashionable nowadays... Pops and bangs just make me think of a Merc A class AMG or Audi RS3, I want a sound that separates me from the PCP Balenciaged roid boys lighting up their fronts outside B&Q on Saturday night... #controversial

So far from what I’ve heard that JCR sounds promising.

In the case of the 981 GT4 it doesn’t pop and bang.... and certainly not to the same level as the 981 Spyder, or 981 GTS, which does grate on a few people.
At the end of the day...what sounds nice or good, is subjective, so it’s all in ear of the listener.

Congrats on the car, it looks great. I’m in the same dealer as you so will bump into you at some stage I’m sure.

Try and get it ppf’d if you can, at least the front of it. There is a crowd called flawless detailing I see are doing it now which is the first that I am aware of over here.

Stick on plate all day long in my opinion.

Plinth, proper number plate, no PPF and drive it regularly in lieu of polishing it.

That's what I'll be doing with mine.

Now there is a statement, no PPF... I’m with you on that, although I will be getting a ceramic coating applied to mine. So many people seem to spend a fortune on PPF, why???

Looks great in crayon.
I’d definitely go with a sticker front number plate.

Highgate House can cut the plate slightly narrower so that it sits flush and neat without bending over the bumper lip

+1 For Highgate House. They even put the supplying dealers Postcode on it so it’s legal.

If you aren’t sure go with the sticker and see if you like it....you can always put a plinth on afterwards. Once they’ve drilled the holes for the plinth though you can’t go back!

Wow, what a beautiful car, congrats and well wear. I'd go for the stick on plate, I wish I've had done that to my 981 GT4. Next P car I get will have a stick on plate for sure.

Why to have it under cover until delivery? Just ask them to park it next to the GT2 RS behind velvet ropes... it will look class!

Technically and according to number plate regs stick on plates fail the durability and flat surface presentation test so many will claim they are in fact illegal.

All OPCs along with main dealers theoretically have to ensure a car supplied by them complies with the regs before it leaves their premises but many appear to turn a blind eye.

Where most stick on plates fail is either by not having the BS code AND supplying dealers post code and/or having an insufficient sized border.

I have a stick on plate on the GT3 which looks far better than a plinth but mainly because one OPC a few years back made such a balls up of drilling the front bumper I vowed never again.

I'd only consider a stick on plate on that stunning GT4 as a plinth would ruin its front end..Even more so on a white GT4 as the stick on plate will blend invisibly into the same white paintwork with only the lettering showing.

Thank you for all of the kind words.

I'm based in Ireland, so the 'stick on plate' rules are different in Ireland... they used to be illegal but are now legal if you use the right format... however i'm leaning towards a full mounted plate as I feel it works better with the front lip (... each to their own :-)

I'm not picking it up until January because the registration system is different in Ireland... if I picked it up in Dec, the car is deemed one year old as soon as January arrives (3 weeks later)... we don't have private registrations, etc... it doesn't really matter for a GT car as such and I plan on keeping the car anyway, unless Porsche release another NA GT4 in 2-3 years time... but for the sake of 3 weeks I think it is worth the wait.

As for PPF, we don't really have any dedicated PPF companies in Ireland, as far as I know? I am considering bringing it over to the UK to Topaz, as I will be using the car as my daily.

+1 for stick on plate. Here is mine with its temp plate prior to PPF. I will do a neater one once it's done.

As for PPF definitely if you are going onto track.
On track the cars take a right battering. On the road the risk is less but it's probably less expensive than a front end respray.
