No wonder you can't get a 718 Spyder in the UK. They're all going to China along with the 2.0T engines!

As long as its just those pink ones I'm sure we don't mind.

Looks lovely... just minus the PDK ??
Looked stunning to be honest, even though full of dust and crud.I thought this was the GT4 everyone wants with the PDK looking at comments .I dare say your a manual guy which is fine , great to have the choice.

Just picked up the manual , so I’m bias. That being said, it is the nicest gearbox I’ve ever used. Find the car so much more engaging.

I need to give my OPC a kick, zero comms and no PEC invite as yet. I know of two other people with same spec lock date as me (24th March) who've had confirmation their car has been built and will be at the dealer in May, yet no news on mine.

While I'm not in a rush, etc. it would be nice to get some updates
Some OPCs don't bother with PEC in fact I have a couple of drive days outstanding.

You can contact them yourself directly and arrange the drive at your convenience.
Build date confirmed as 30/4 with expected arrival at Emden on 8/5. Might see the car before June.

Re: PEC. Dealer said they’re working through a large backlog and you can either wait your turn or call them yourself and try and get in early. I’ll call them tomorrow.

I have had lots of cars done with PPF, and would highly recommend it, (if stone chips are a problem for you) if you dont mind stone chips then dont waste your money. I would say most people I know buying new high end cars have the full front PPF or the whole car, its expensive, but makes resale easier as cars paint is perfect (AND ORIGINAL - which is a big thing with some people)

just had the front bumper , bonner, mirrors, front wings, A Pillars, roof line, sills, rear quarter, leading edge of rear bumper done on the GT4, £1800 at incredible detailing, quality was perfect . Previously I had only used Reep, but they have whacked their prices up as they have a deal with sytner so were no longer giving, 20% discount to porsche club members. so they were like £400 more expensive and further away. 2 years ago, it was just under £1500 to have the same work done by reep on my 991RS,

regards
Scott.
Thanks for the info.

So around £2k for partial is about right. You make a good point about keeping the paintwork original and it being a high end car so I guess these factors come into play somewhat further down the line.

Well I've just had a bombshell of a phone call.........

Due to parts supply issues, Porsche have cancelled my car! Not postponed but yes cancelled it. Salesman says there's just a white blank box on his system where the car order once sat. They also said they are sorry about it. You can imagine my feelings on it.

The silver lining to the cloud is - and I really don't know how this is working anymore - they are able to slot me into another car. I will now be getting a MY2022 car (July build apparently). So my cost price has gone up but as I had enquired about Shark Blue, it is now orderable to me. They are prepared to offer a full refund if I am not happy about paying the extra for a MY2022 car,

What do you guys think about this whole episode and on Shark Blue?

Can you explain a bit more? Eg when you placed your order, whether you got as far as locked spec etc.

I was informed of my allocation about three months ago. The Porsche drop dead lockdown date was 30th April but I informed the OPC of my final spec last week. I had a spec on the system with a build number. I went through it together with the OPC last week.

Wow - that must be sickening! I haven’t heard of that happening before - production delays yes, but not cancellation. Makes me very nervous for my own Spyder. Lock down date was 19 April and as of last Saturday it was still being shown with a build completion date of 21 May. Please keep us informed of any developments. Shark Blue is a nice colour by the way. I was always tempted by Miami Blue but never had the courage to order it myself - being almost 70 I thought I might look a bit “ boy racerish” if you know what I mean !

Bad news, mobil1 frown

I suspect it's been cancelled and not just delayed because the delay tips you into the MY22 schedule so you'll need to re-spec the car as things change. I think that's why you've got an instant slot too, they've just moved you down the line.

Reckon Porsche have cancelled the build slot as this lets them off the hook for potential increased costs associated with a loaner and possible delay compensation which may be triggered by the freeze point.

Gutted for you! Which is the OPC if you don’t mind me asking?

Glad I bought a lightly used one now. I wasn’t keen on waiting for my build slot to be confirmed, this makes me think it may never have been confirmed.

So it cant just be you who got cancelled be interesting to hear of others via the www

Many decades ago my brother's 911 was due into dealership shortly and he was very excited. Then gets a call from the DP who said his car will be 12 weeks away etc. All very annoying but what else could he do but wait the new delivery date

12 months on the Porsche sales manager who had left shortly after my brother saga bumped into me at some car bash and explained one of their top clients wanted an exact spec 911 to my brothers a s a p and the DP very kindly let my brother down whilst keeping his VIP client extremely happy

Moral of the story you may never really know what happened but on the upside you get a Shark lick

I would take the shark blue.

Bit of a kick in the teeth they haven’t offered to price protect it. If you’ve already sold any car you were due to replace then maybe have a conversation with them about a bit of a goodwill if you’re desperate but I’d try to look on the positive side, you’ve still got a slot and can get the shark blue.

I have to say since putting a deposit in I’m struggling with the lack of response to email but I suspect the sales teams simply aren’t that fussed about it until they’ve found you an actual build slot.

A number of people have told me that as I’ve not bought loads of porsches before, that the dealer has taken a deposit but has no intention of finding me a car. I can’t see that being true as it’d be lots of hassle for no real benefit. Certainly I do feel nervous that I simply won’t get a car full stop cry

This is bad darts, but as Twinfan says it's likely the 'cancellation' is presented as they have to offer you the option. I'd suspect they've seen the estimated build slot pushed back to a point where it's a 22MY car and that brings with it a change in spec and price that they have to give you the option to release yourself from the contract.

If the delay truly is 1-2 months, and you can have the Shark Blue, etc. then it may turn out for the best in the long run, but I appreciate that is likely little comfort right now.

The reason for the delay would be interesting to find out, you had a lock date of 30th April which means it would have been scheduled around early June originally. I wonder if the 4.0 litre engine builds they're having to do has caused an issue and all production is being pushed back?
