I was having a car-related conversation with the Mrs. yesterday (not her favourite topic by any means), as following another long trip out on Saturday I'd come to the decision that I'll be looking to offload the Spyder. God, it's so lovely and everything but I haven't been able to gel with it any more than I had when I wrote my first impressions a few months ago.

Given how many cars I've been through recently and the 'this is a long-term keeper, I promise' conversation we had about this one, I thought she'd start windmilling but she was actually supportive. She won't drive it as it's too loud for her, and the roof is annoying apparently, and she doesn't like manuals, so I've got a free pass on this one.

I'll think about timing and all that over the next few weeks. Is it 'expected' to offer the car back to the supplying OPC? They got me into the car and all that, but I won't be getting another Porsche so it's a one-way transaction.
LOL at this re the Mrs - I bet the fact it’s worth more than you paid led to the “free pass”!!

I've got both PS4Ss and Cup2s on different sets of wheels. Cup2s have a stiffer sidewall and more grip from the softer compound. PS4Ss are softer in the corners and heat up much more on a hot day when pressing on.

I use PS4Ss as winter tyres, they're great from Oct/Nov to Mar/Apr as Cup2s don't like cold and wet!
What wheels did you go for?

Went from Cup 2’s to PS4S. Not regretted the decision.. I hit some very wet twisty roads on Sunday, car handled very nicely with no problems! I think they are essential tyres for this country…

Thanks! What about in the dry when it’s warm? How much are you giving up?

Well that is a coincidence as I was asking on the R forum if anyone finds the PS4S's in the UK climate are ok through winter - seems to be many now confirming they are ok, unless in serious sub zero temperatures. Good to know you use them for most of the year.

My wife runs PS4Ss on her daily Focus RS which is how I knew they would be up for the job.

I ultimately prefer the feel of Cup2s but PS4Ss are a superb mixed weather friendly option.

Swapped them for a Highlands trip in October (maxx race 2 to PS4S). Could have been a white knuckle ride up there with the Dunlop’s.

From what I hear you might give up 3% in the dry when on a track…. Reality is on a road & my skill level the car never sees it true potential.

Will keep you informed!

Hello All - It's been a while since my last post. As I had said before, thanks to all the (mostly!) helpful comments/feedback that was given to me during the purchase of my car. Talking of which, I had a call from the OPC on Monday and it's finally arrived. Yes they actually built it this time after cancelling the initial order. Despite my last minute wobbles, I stuck to my original choice which was silver, manual, pccbs, 918 bucket seats. Going to take a first look at it on Saturday so really excited.

Jefferson - Really sorry to see that you had not gelled with car and will be selling it. On the positive side, the prices are holding up strong. Last time I had a look on the Porsche website, they were knocking on £100k! Just out of interest, was it a daily driver for you? Maybe the pdk might have been a better choice as a daily. Did you do the Silverstone Experience?

Thanks buddy, I did the PEC day a few days ago and it was great (as it always is) but I didn't learn anything new apart from the Guard's Red Spyder they use has a knackered clutch....And on that subject, the PDK thing is probably real as I find the manual gearing far more annoying than I thought I would. That said, if they offered me a swap into a PDK tomorrow I'd still say no, as ultimately it's the compromises the car demands that I just can't manage.

But there's still that feeling every now and then, and as it's not a daily driver there are times when I just take it for a spin and the whole world feels right again.

Interestingly, while I could sell my car tomorrow to a number of OPCs, none of them are willing to pay 1p more than I paid for it. I haven't spoken with all of the OPC groups yet, but the feedback so far has been that prices advertised are not the same as realised, blah blah blah and I shouldn't expect to make money, etc. So the best offer so far has been money back.

Great figure and as the accurate bellweather of used car prices this reflects their confidence in future rising prices ££.

The parking brake on the GT4 has to be the worst incarnation of an electric handbrake I have ever come across... The parking brake/hill hold on my Audi S3 is faultless to the point you don't even notice it doing it's thing... The GT4 is the other end of the spectrum...

Has anyone managed to work out the criteria yet for when the hill hold activates on the GT4?
Some inclines it comes on, so it doesn't. Why doesn't the dash light come on to warm/advise?
Does it really only activate on the Nearside rear? and is there a way to adjust how/when it releases? I've stalled mine 3 or 4 times now when it doesn't seem to release properly and you end up pulling away to a nasty groaning sound as it comes off too late/slow.

I stalled mine quite a few times too..No idea how it’s supposed to work but found it very irritating and I never usually stall cars.

I thought that but there is, it’s just not called hill hold assist, doesn’t illuminate the light, is impenetrable in operation, and groans and sticks as described above.

The dash light is there, when you turn the ignition on but don't start the engine youll see the green HOLD light on the speedo. However in operation it does not illuminate, despite it requiring a rather large amount of revs to get the damm thing to unstick. Something I noticed too...

I can only speak to a 981 GT4.

The handbook says it comes on when the gradient is over 5%. I have tried - once - coming off the footbrake and it held. Reapplying the foot brake there was a bit less pedal travel.

The hold light never comes on. No idea why, because it is there and lights up when you turn the ignition on.

Never had a problem pulling away though. I’ve been surprised sometimes that the hill hold isn’t active, but when it is it comes off the instant the cars starts to move.
