The new 718 Gt4/Spyder are here!
Discussion
Just specced a spyder for fun how i’d like it (silver with red, buckets, PCCB, Nav as I want a radio, but not possible without the stupid screen so might as well have it then, black calipers, couple other marginal bits) - 115k - 93 base plus 22 options (euros), I think 14k of which is brakes and seats - bit pricey I have to say. Nice looking car though, would quite like one.

I'm pleased to say I have been phoned to say that I have an allocation in the first batch (my OPC is getting 4). So excited!
I've been patiently watching the classifieds for the perfect 997.2 GT3 and it hasn't quite materialised, so it's nice to see I can spec up a GT4 really well and still be no worse off. Plus there's no need to worry about the issues that might creep in on a 10 year old car.
For those curious:
- An email of intent was sent well over a year ago
- I have history with the OPC (5 or more cars bought)
- I bought a car from them this year (just a Macan Diesel)
- I missed out on the last GT4 (and they knew it)
- I nagged 'my' salesman (in a light hearted way!) relentlessly
- A "please please please" email was sent to the Dealer Principal
- The Dealer Principal then consulted with 'my' salesman, and I got the call this afternoon
I now have to sell my Performante, and look forward to getting back into a proper Porsche!
That’s nice, I was told by my OPC they were not excepting any orders :-( I've been patiently watching the classifieds for the perfect 997.2 GT3 and it hasn't quite materialised, so it's nice to see I can spec up a GT4 really well and still be no worse off. One wonders what lies and st is going about yet again.
I fail to see why you need to spend in excess of £85k on the 718 gt4/spyder, all you need to add is the PDLS/LED lights, leather and seats of choice nothing else adds to the driving experience or future values. Some may argue the ceramics but the steels are perfectly effective, as they say less is more! But each to their own the trinket options are longer this time round to tempt prospective buyers to part with more cash!

I'd just have the leather. As a daily, I think those buckets would get pretty grotty looking and tiresome to negotiate in tight spaces. What colour would you go for? I'd probably choose Guards.
I have the cash sitting here ready to buy one....I would love one....but I simply don't want anything that badly anymore to beg to spend £80K....

Why does NOBODY ever seem to get the steering column casing in leather. That is a MUST. you need to add that to your spec
Not sure it’s a must but I like it and always get it. Of course you need the leather dash to go with it...freedman said:

yes I commented the other day (on the other thread) that the old GT4 will plummet in value, for which I was laughed at. They will hit £50K in a year.
Obviously values will be affected but 50k, no chanceMaybe 65k at the very bottom end in 12 months but cant see them falling further than that

I couldn't agree more, although if they get another 600 - 800 or more added to the 600 981 GT4's then thats a whole lot of GT4's......never mind all the GT3's out there. How deep is the GT market?
It's getting like the Rolex submariner game, apparently you can't buy one, yet every car dealer, accountant, city boy in finance and Essex wide boy is bloody wearing one.
That being said, both the GT4 and Spyder look the nuts, not sure they look that much better than the already excellent 981 though?
Personally I'm going to make do with my Cayman R.

Been looking to buy a Spyder for a long time and will wait to see if I get an allocation for the 718. If not I would expect to be able to pick up a 981 Spyder later this year in the very low 60's. Think the new cars look fantastic and the car i built on config came in at a reasonable 83k. I just hope they build for everyone who wants to buy one and actually drive it. Breaks my heart to see cars still coming onto the market 3 - 4 years old with 1000 miles on the clock.

Why are upgraded headlights seen as such a must have option?
Genuine question
When some of us become a certain age good headlights are a must at night, Porsche I have had in the past without xenons etc have been like driving with candle lights, even our mini has LEDs. But if your night vision is 20 20 then not requiredGenuine question

They're not IMO unless you intend to spend a lot of time driving at night..They add weight, complexity and i hate the washer nozzles in both the way they look and spray washer fluid over the bonnet..I never had PDLS on my GT4 or my current Spyder and will do the same on my 718 Spyder.Genuine question
