Some people are saying 2021 will be the last year of production for the current 718 models. Would make a PDK Spyder a rare car indeed.
Yep it remains to be seen but is likely production will cease after second run 2021.

Allocations for both PDK GT4 and Spyder will be very hard to get.

GT4RS PDK S if even made will be virtually impossible to obtain with only c 1 per OPC.

Why do you think that will be the case? It's hardly worth building if so.

Tend to think it will be more of a branding exercise car but time will tell!.

Yeah, fair point. It'll be a real unicorn car in the Cayster hierarchy if that's the case. Strange to do something like that to the entry-level sportscar, but it'll be pretty cool if (when?) it makes production.

What happens after second run 2021 then? I hear car regs are changing for 2022 so the platform will have to change. But it only seems like it’s been around for five minutes.

Maybe I’m getting old.

The 718 is a .2 minor upgrade of the 981 platform, which was launched in 2012. So it's been around for aaaaaaaaaages. However, we haven't seen any next-gen mules knocking about, the only thing we've seen in the GT4RS. So at the moment it looks like they'll continue as-is until the regs say they can't, then the Cayster will be canned.

It's unusual not to have seen a single mule if there's a next-gen car around the corner. Very unusual.

Mandatory speed limiters on cars from 2022 anyway, who’d want that? smile Getting rather sick of bureaucrats meddling.

They must have spent a fair chunk on developing the F4T engine, be odd to just see them bin it. Maybe we’ll see the next generation of mules next year. With the speed limiters, front pedestrian safety features etc.

Maybe, I guess there's some overlap for sales of existing models when the new regs come in.

With more nanny systems added we've surely reached and passed peak Porsche sports car haven't we?

Mandatory speed limiters.... will be disconnected. In the same way DPFs will be bypassed and exhausts will be straight piped. Just need a switch to "put it all back" in time for the 'friendly' MOT. smile

Messing with a mandatory speed limiter would be a whole different situation. After market exhausts won’t land you in prison... good luck with a speed related accident with a limiter removed...

Yep, plus there will be data loggers fitted. Not something you want to be messing with I suspect if it will make your insurance invalid.

I think that’s the one that pisses me off the most, the mandatory black boxes. How very dystopian.

Like most of these ideas it doesn’t seem fully thought out. Enjoy it while we can I think! Might have to buy a second GT4 for rolling spares, keep it going as long as I can hehe

Porsche have added software that acts similar to crash data recorders to their cars since the 987/997.
