Porsche Cayman Insurance

Hi,

I am looking for recommendations for insurance companies for my Porsche when it arrives. I assume it is better to go to a specialist rather than main street company?

It depends. I'm with a specialist now (Lockton via the PCGB) but I was with Direct Line for my first year.

You'll just have to shop around to see who offers you the best deal. Key things to watch out for are track day cover and a genuine Porsche windscreen if replacement is required. You'll need the latter to maintain the manufacturer or extended warranty.

Lockton are more of a weekend car / minimal mileage insurance imo. With a track day or two thrown in though. I asked them to quote for 20k miles per annum and they basically referred me to L.V. so utterly useless to me but there you go, good old PCGB recommendations eh... apparently 5k miles is the cap but why bother to own a car for such minimal usage...

Do multiple cars cover, no interest charge for paying by instalments, an old fashioned way of quoting.

Suprisingly when I was looking for my first insurance on my Cayman last year L.V were recommended quite highly on a number of Porsche groups, they also came up cheapest (a few were cheaper but never heard of them) been with L.V nearly a year now, renewal has just come in with a +£100 figure from last year so will be shopping around.

Try Adrian Flux. Service probably non existent but minimum legal standards met for minimum cost...

A vote for LV here. Moved to them in 2015. Unlucky, claimed twice for bumps in the first 18mths. Superb service on both occasions. Stayed with them since.

Found that the specialists didnt want me to do more than 7k so went to the general market for my 2011 987. Surprised that Admiral were quite a lot cheaper than the rest. More surprising was that their renewal actually went down (never happen to me before) whilst the rest of the providers went higher!!

Can vouch for the service yet and I hope not to be in a position to do so.

Me too - they will also replace new for old for the first 2 years. No need for gap insurance - if that's a consideration.

Lockton via PCGB weren't the best quote for me on a 3k mile policy and their track day cover was only for PCGB events which cost the earth to attend when compared to other track day "providers".

Reis Motorsport came in tops for me and I got an agreed value policy with my R. It includes 5 trackdays which must be organised by a huge list of reputable providers just needing 24hrs notice prior to the event itself. They did want the car to have the tracker subscription in place for my policy - which it is anyhow. Was about £120 cheaper than Lockton for my policy needs.

I used Admiral for a year because they were cheaper than any specialist but have switched to Manning for track day cover. My car spent much of year 1 in storage but now it is play time.

You just have to phone around and have the same conversation 20 times !! They all vary and one year will be different to the next as underwriter incentives fluctuate. I always spend an hour having a ring round and then play the best 2 off against one another. It's usually an hour well spent !

I actually insured directly through Porsche this time. I'm not sure if they are any good because (touch wood) I haven't had to claim for anything. They seem to respond to queries by email quickly enough at least.

Mines due on 10th so decided to try Porsche themselves this afternoon, they wanted £1500 more than most of my other quotes.

Wow. For me they were in the same ballpark as Direct Line and cheaper than my auto renewal with Privilege

Admiral for my old GTS, by far the cheapest. Used Admiral for years, got to test them when one of my cars was stolen and couldn't fault it. If you can multi car it works out even cheaper.
