GT4 RS breaks cover then...

You have obviously spent far too much time on the configurator
Yes it does look nice ... though on the subject of the magnesium wheels, I wonder what mass these save over equivalent strength forged alloys ?
Magnesium does carry a greater risk of breakage and it ages ....
Just under 10kg. Not really worth it with the extra power it has, though unsprung mass is always worth reducing I guess. Depends how flush you're feelingYes it does look nice ... though on the subject of the magnesium wheels, I wonder what mass these save over equivalent strength forged alloys ?

They make a bit of a difference in terms of 'lighter steering' on the GT3 RS, but they're nearly £20k from Manthey

As stated previously - around a 10kg saving (2.5kg per wheel) and hopefully will be felt in the reduction in un-sprung mass (along with the spec'd PCCBs), but ultimately, with the the spec'ing of the WP, I wanted the Magnesium wheels to go with it. And I prefer the looks over the forged alloys.Yes it does look nice ... though on the subject of the magnesium wheels, I wonder what mass these save over equivalent strength forged alloys ?

I don't think I would see a commensurate return on re-sale, but re-sale isn't a concern.

Looks great Mark! Only just noticed it’s you….didn’t know you were active on here, but there aren’t likely to be many others around with that username
Another car that will undoubtedly be driven properly too!
Thanks Mike - yep, it's me! Good to hear from you. Another car that will undoubtedly be driven properly too!

I think you’re comparing the magnesium wheels from yesteryear with today’s iterations Chris. The magnesium material used to produce the 964 RS wheels and BBS E82 centres and the techniques used to cast them are very different from the forging/forming techniques used today.Yes it does look nice ... though on the subject of the magnesium wheels, I wonder what mass these save over equivalent strength forged alloys ?

I am indeed ... but I am aware of at least one failure as a consequence of kerbing ... though the same incident with a forged alloy could have resulted in a similar outcome ??
An instructor at the PEC told me a few years ago that the Mags on their GT2 RS WP were subjected to so much kerb rash that they'd replaced them with the optional Aluminium forged alloys. The Mags on my RS are totally unmarked from new after doing 12 track days although I tend to avoid particularly aggressive kerbs.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
