Hi Dave,
Where are you with an exhaust, did I hear you had one but there was a problem getting it fitted ?
I'm wondering, the standard even with the sports button on is a bit average, I need to do the research everyone else has done, which is best option and how much difference does it make. Not interested in removing filters, so just looking at the silencer swop. It is difficult just watching youtube vids to get an accurate idea of the sound, so any advice would help.
Have you spoken with your OPC for their opinion regarding warranty as that is my main concern.
I did listen to a video of a GT4 / JCR system on Archie Hamilton site which sounded sublime but I guess that was a full system GPF's removed.
Currently just cannot make a decision for every + I can find a - guess its a sign of getting old hehe
Hi Geoff smile

I went for fitting attempt #2 this morning actually, but now the small bullet silencers foul the chassis. Last time it was the pipepwork! We're sending my car off to the fabricators in a couple of weeks where they'll get it spot on. Should maybe have done that first time but we didn't know quite how exact a shape the exhaust needs to be. It's a close fit in there! I'll have the car completed in about 3 weeks, so I can probably tell you more then. As of right now, I can tell you that JCR and BCFabs are very expensive options so if you're happy to wait a bit longer my Ninemeister system will be much better priced wink

I've not spoken to my OPC about the exhaust yet, just my insurers. I don't think talking to an OPC is much use as the crunch will be if you have to make a claim, and then it'll be Porsche's call not theirs. However, under the new car 3 year warranty Porsche need to prove it's the exhaust that caused any fault and as it's only a silencer I reckon it'll be pretty hard to do. I'm not planning on running the extended warranty and will probably look to do some more mods after year 3 e.g. lightweight battery, change of wheels, maybe some engine tuning etc, It'll all depend if an electric Cayman comes along or not. Obviously running the extended warranty with an exhaust mod is a bit of a daft thing to do.

I hope that helps, if only a little bit smile
Cheers, maybe could arrange to meet and have a listen once your happy with it.

Assume you’re not touching the GPF? Makes the car not road legal and uninsurable. With Porsche, i believe they may warranty a sat nav because they won’t be told about other works most likely by your OPC (not because it’s not related), but the engine and associated drivetrain most likely would be invalidated. If they will deny a warranty claim on a sat nav, because the battery isn’t a Porsche one...
Just sharing experience.

No, I'm not touching the GPF.

Plus I think you're talking about the extended warranty not the new car factory warranty. The rules are very different.

So if I go for JCR, it will cost about 5k for the exhaust and 500 to fit.
Wow, that’s a lot for a bit more sound.
Manny if they’re quoting you £500 fitting it’s too much imo. I paid £200+vat for fitting for reference.

Installing JCR exhaust takes 1h15 for a trained mechanic.

Right, so why are some dealers quoting 4 hours to fit?

you will note all my posts have been removed as many fan boys must have reported them, but you know why some places charge 4 to 5 hours.
Any one who quotes over 2 hours is ripping you off ! I have said this. Only thing to do is vote with your feet.

Indeed. There appears to be a valve mod that I may try:

I’ve done the exhaust valve mod, takes about ten mins (a little longer by the time you’ve secured the hoses and blanked off the vacuum hoses properly). It makes quite a difference, not on the scale of a new, less restrictive silencer but improves the sound where the valves would normally be closed. I blocked the vacuum ports on the valves as well to stop them ingesting road crud. Definitely worthwhile, costs nothing, improves sound in the lower revs. It does mean your exhaust button no longer functions (obviously) and you have no Stealth mode. Oh and it’s totally reversible!

Did you have to remove the wheels to do the mod?

What did you use to block the newly created holes? Certain type of screw?

No, it was surprisingly easy. You can access the vacuum port on the valves from underneath the car, I did it scrabbling around on my back in the driveway 😂. Would be better if you can get the car on stands to give yourself a bit more room to work. I was working more by feel than sight.

I used a short section of flexible tube and a suitable stainless screw to blank the vacuum port on the actuator. I think the tube was 6mm ID but don’t quote me on that. I used suitably sized bolts (M6) to plug the hoses from the vacuum system too. Stainless P clips to secure the hoses out of the way (I picked up on some exposed thread on another fixing to secure these and used a nyloc). No problems so far but will most likely reconnect for any visits to my OPC!

There is an easier way to do the mod, not tried it yet. On Rennlist they are wiring the flaps open.

Yeah I had considered mechanically restricting the valve closing stroke but it just didn’t seem like the right way to do it, just my ocd I suppose!
