Steering wheel really let’s these cars down, it’s just wrong. The BMW ‘M’ wheels from a few years back is just right. One of the few things that is wrong on modern Porsche.
Well I owned BMW M cars a few years ago and I always thought the wheels were too thick

Agree, has been the same on all BMWs I have owned in recent times.

It felt cheap and nasty quite honestly and the GTS in the showroom was not wearing well at all.
Not wearing well in what way? It's a very hardwearing material.

I did 14k miles in my old 981 GTS and after a light clean my steering wheel, gear knob and seat inserts would look like new.
Same for me
I'm now at 7k miles and the steering wheel has certainly lost some of if soft/freshness from new.

What is the cleaning technique for the uneducated?

A damp, soft cloth with a small amount of mild soap is all you need. For any stubborn bits use an old toothbrush too. When the material is still damp use a dry, soft cloth to take the excess moisture out and restore the pile. Job done.

What people see as wear is just a thin layer of dirts/oils and a flattened pile which in 10 minutes can be restored to as new.

Thank you, I will give this a go!

Got the email today saying my car is built at the factory so only 2/3 weeks lefts for delivery. Super excited.
How is everyone finding the sound of the car? I suppose it can’t be as good as before when non gpf. Will I miss my v8 as thats going electric and the 4.0 is my last ice?
The engine itself sounds great. The exhaust is simply terrible I’m afraid. In quiet mode it’s ok as you can just hear the engine itself. In loud mode it’s not a great sound, and automatic valves mask it completely between 2k and 5k rpm making the exhaust button all but pointless.

I have the Cargraphic valve defeat fob which I thought at £400 was worth a go, but now I just leave it in quiet all the time. Maybe I’ll try the BMC air filters next. No doubt you could make this car sound truly amazing with some effort and £.

I’m 3k miles in now for what it’s worth.

You can't make the car sound amazing and keep it legal - there's no magic bullet.

The stock exhaust with valves open all the time is louder, yes, but I found it droney and the actual tone/note wasn't great. My GT4 has a replacement silencer which mixes the exhaust banks and the tone is much nicer but due to the reduced silencing it has some drone at lower revs too. Opening the windows helps minimise this.

Porsche made the exhaust quiet for a reason - to kill the drone induced by the GPFs.

Anyone else find their 4.0 GTS frequently scuffs its brake ducts or splitter on the road? It has the standard (-20mm) suspension I’ve been a little surprised how often it scuffs a little. Obviously no harm done but I wonder if it has much larger&lower brake ducts than previous cars?

Nope, four months with our GTS now and we also have the standard -20mm drop. Not aware it's ever caught or scuffed anything and there are plenty of speed bumps around here.

So how much are you all spending on your cars, with options, if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m trying tospec my Boxster S and it’s topping 70k with the options I want.
I normally land with ~£10k of options. IMO, any more £££ is a call to select the next model in the range.

At risk of asking a question which has likely been asking numerous times in this thread. Why did folks go with the GTS instead of the GT4?

The comment above about spending more than £10k on options and going up in the range rings particularly true given the list price delta between GTS & GT4. I appreciate with that logic you could keep creeping the budget up indefinitely, but you get the point.

My GTS build comes out at £78k.
Using Man Maths means that I start from a base price of £70k because in my world PDK isn't an option laugh it's the starting point.
10% on top of that is a reasonable expectation for a sensible spec, if you can keep it under 5% then you are doing quite well.

I like the plethora of options, however, the downside is people see the starting price and think its a 60 or 70K car, the S is a 70k car, GTS 80k etc especially once you add in the 2k tax bill for the pleasure of buying a new car these days.

To me they suit very different purposes .GTS is the better long distance touring car for me, I find it more comfortable, less risk of grounding out the front and I don't want a wing on my touring road car.

GT4/GTS are very similar cars with a different focus. Same car, different flavours. Options spend won't be much different either?

The main reason for me is concerns about ground clearance considering my car is my daily driver. The GT4 is only 10mm lower (I think) but has a pretty aggressive front splitter

Simple. Couldn’t get an allocation for a GT4 and wanted “new” ideally and the premium for a 6 month old GT4 put them out of reach.

I love Caymans and have owned them for 16 years and done about 120.000 miles in them.

The GTS suits my needs from a sports car better than the GT4 does. I sold my 981 GT4 after 4 and a half years and have had the 718 GTS for nearly two years - and have no regrets.

In my opinion and experience, the GT4 is the better choice if you are going to track it regularly, but it is not as much fun on the road and it is less usable all year round. I find the GTS more involving to drive (the GT4 is a more serious car, if that makes sense), and in 718 guise I prefer its looks versus the GT4. It can be specced in such a way to make it both understated and purposeful.

You sure its the splitter and not the extended rubber piece towards the front of the doors/rear of the front arches?

@MPC09 , go and test drive it… for me GTS is an every day car. The GT4 is a track car. Both incredible machines.

Mine just clip the speed bumps at my daughter's school each morning. I also noticed when 'pressing on' over some welsh B-roads last weekend that they do occasionally do it on the road, especially when the road is underlating, or bumpy.

I also think it is the little aero bits that deflect air around the front tyre.
