My GTS week 1. A few pics and some thoughts for the weekend.

1 week, 898 miles (75 only on Motorways).

Collected and straight down to London to have it ceramic coated by the fastidious folk at Battersea Power Wash (Top work and service). Being good and trying to run the car in properly meant avoiding Motorways whenever possible, and I've stuck to that so far.

Ceramic. All done with System X Max, which is the most durable ceramic coating currently available. Prepped and polished obviously, and came back looking fantastic, an easily noticeable improvement over the paint quality at collection.

Then back home the with a coffee stop via some nice Cotswold roads to work the suspension a bit...

Sticking with the running in regime meant nice long trips, avoiding motorways, working the PDK box etc and I think short of putting it on a test rig you'd be hard pushed to do better.
First day trip was to the Black Mountains of Wales, freestyling the route meant I got myself in a potential situation. Narrowing/deteriorating roads, no suitable turning spots... I had visions of reversing half a mile if I met a tractor. Like this, but it got worse nono

Eventually escaped the maze of tracks without incident, and back home.

Fitted dashcam. Garmin Mini 2, which is about the least obtrusive fitment I could find. You can't see any of it from the driving position.

The next day trip was to go and get a coffee. It took 4 hours and I ended up offroading.

The car was fantastic, and the roads across the central Cotswolds are ideally suited, at legal speeds you can load up the tyres enough that the car is having to do some work and demonstrate its capabilities. Even 4000 rpm is sufficient to allow safe smooth overtakes.

More running in to do before its first proper roadtrip at the end of the month but nearly everything so far has been positive.
I'm surprised at how comfortable it is on long days (Sport Seats Plus). 5 hour drives with a half hour break are a non issue, which is handy.

It gets very positive reactions when out and about, being a non-shouty spec may help? Every time I've stopped someone has come over to talk about it and ask questions. Quite refreshing.

I'm happy with all of the spec choices I made (bar one, sort of, below) and don't feel I made any significant omissions.

I need to practice using to the reversing camera as its perspective is very different to what I've had before and some of my parking angles have been "odd".

The only negative I can think of so far is the Bose sound. Which was the one option I'd not been able to hear before purchase, I went with it because it should offer an easier upgrade path than the standard fit. However, whoever signed that off as acceptable should be made to listen to it for a week.
I've a Bose system in my daily which is quite excellent, so this implementation is very weak.

More miles to do. A wash is due and vac some of the sand out of the interior. Put together my roadtrip kit (few tools, pump, torch etc)
It's been a fun week.

Great write up.
I have found I almost always put sports mode on during the running in period, helps not to put low rev strain on the engine with PDK and with a reasonably light right foot still changes in the 3-3,500 rpm range.
Of course when she is run in sports mode will be the only mode she will be in.
I like you took a non motorway route from Cambridge to Dorset after collection. Are you going to have an oil change after running in? Are you going to stick to 4,000 until 1800 miles?
Mine is going to my Indi after around 1,400 miles just to get the oil and filter changed after the IoM trip.

I've mainly been using Normal mode for PDK and varying the sPASM mode as appropriate.

However, the joy of the PDK is the flexibility and different ways you can use it. Even in normal mode a quick short stab on the accelerator drops you 1 or 2 gears as required, or use the paddles for a temporary over ride, or into manual mode for semi-auto etc. So, in short! I'm taking the opportunity to use the systems to keep it in that happy rev range and as a famil exercise for me.

It may get an early oil change, but I'm not going to be paranoid about that.

It may be a little short of 1800 miles before seeing more than 4000 rpm, but I'm thinking that my running in has been pretty much ideal and as long as its not bouncing off the rev limiter it'll be fine. Properly warmed up, I don't see any issue with gradually increasing the available rev range, avoid high load situations etc.

That beach is the delightful Weston super Mare.

Fantastic pics and write up. If our first 718 hadn't been GT Silver I would have had it on our current GTS. Looks superb with the platinum wheels rather than the usual black (which looks good too).

With the Bose, make sure you've switched off the Surround Sound setting. It makes a considerable difference. It's still not brilliant but it's reasonable.

Great write-up. Thanks for that.

Agree on the Bose - it’s so average.

This seems to offer an improvement, not sure I can be bothered though:

I’ve done that “mod.” Super easy to do and makes a noticeable difference.

Will give this a try. The Bose is the only think I am dissapointed with, I seem to have to have it cracked up over 50% to even really hear it.

Thanks gents for the positive responses and info. [I've lumped my responses below, one day I'll work out how to multi-quote here!].

Of all the choices the configurator allows GT Silver was probably the easiest decision for me. Always loved it, shows off the body contours, timeless.
My interior spec is similarly dull/classy* (delete according to your preference).

Yes, I checked that Surround Mode was OFF and fiddled around with the various settings. The low end is wooly, but my issue is the upper mids. Brittle/sibilant which when you turn it up enough to hear whilst cruising becomes genuinely unpleasant.

Some people don't listen to much when driving, or take the view that you should be listening to the nice engine note, which is fair enough. However, a GT car is meant to cover distance so I don't think it's unreasonable to criticise this area of the vehicle. 5-8 hour days can be more enjoyable with some toons etc on when just cruising along.

The Burmester speaker upgrade is definitely on the cards for starters.

@M11rph, thanks for sharing new ownership experience, good to know they still seem to be a good thing!

I got an email on Friday to say that my local OPC has been trying to get in touch, as they have a Cayman 4.0 GTS allocation available for July build, delivery in August/September. I'm quietly excited, but have learnt not to hold my breath while waiting, as this will be the third new 718 Cayman I've ordered, and the build times often don't seem to go to plan. Placed my deposit in September last year if I remember right, and it seems to have been the slowest to get to an allocation so far. Won't be surprised if the actual car comes in 2024.

I was overjoyed to see Aventurine Green back in the configurator choices, but disappointed when selecting it gave me an "Oh no you don't!" message. Hopefully by the time I lock down, even better if Carrara white is back. GT Silver is still a possibility, but most likely current options will be plain White or Gentian Blue. First World issues, lots of available colours look great to me, but other details mean I'll want to continue with spec'ing a new car.

It's definitely a "good thing", as you know having previous ownership. Overwhelmingly positive early impressions from me and I'm going to enjoy using it fully.

Schedules. My build was initially allocated for Dec/Jan, which did get pushed back. Build completed early March, although I got the impression that delays were coming down and cars are getting delivered nearer to their planned build date. It was 6 weeks from build completion to delivery which seems normal.

Aventurine. At what stage are you getting a "No you don't" message? I've been on the Configurator, selected AGM and then saved the code, it's not told me to "Do One" yet.

Someone on a different forum also wanted AV and the configurator allowed it right up to the OPC finalising then it was kicked back. This was about 2 weeks ago, so I guess AV, CW, PG and PTS are still off.

Aventurine is back on the UK configurator however, I've yet to hear of anyone getting past the freeze point with the box still ticked.

Thanks for the above. I'd guessed there was a fly in the ointment somewhere! Such a shame, as when I ordered mine Solihull had a AGM with Aurum wheels which looked great. Fingers crossed that it returns for those wanting it.

A few more miles for me today, but firstly showed the interior some love.

Gtechniq Leather Guard on the ... leathery bits.
Smart Fabric on the RaceTex bits, and the wash will have to wait as there are some miles to be driven...

Took it up a hill so it could see what lies ahead.

Hopefully should have an allocation soon after 18+ months. After all the changes to standard equipment and configurator options, it’s time to review my original order spec. The multifunction wheel in race-tex is now standard (though the multifunction does not show in the graphic). However if you spec full leather interior it changes to the GT Sports wheel (again multifunction not shown). Does anyone know of the multifunction is retained?
In the wheel section the GT Wheel does not show multifunction on the option ticked, only other option shown is to pick the multifunction carbon wheel which a) not keen on and b) just does not fit with no other carbon.
