My understanding of the build slots is that the OPC's receive an allocation on a monthly basis and they are advised 3 months in advance, towards the end of the month. So yesterday they would have been advised of May's slots.

1st post in here - go easy on me....

Has anybody here tested/driven a GTS 4.0 ?
This is the first new Porsche I've ever driven. The 2.5 GTS engine was underwhelming, so how have you convinced yourself to go with the 4.0 if you haven't driven ?
The N/A flat six is indeed a fairly known engine, but it’s also true to say that not many people have yet driven this particular version, which is exactly the same as the engine in the GT4 and Spyder. It has been well received in those cars.

There are also the road and track test videos where you can hear that yes, it does have the familiar flat six sound track, perhaps without the pops and bangs of the 981 GT4 and Spyder; in my view no bad thing I was never a fan of that cacophony.

Certainly the journalists driving the GTS4.0 have not expressed any disappointment with the power, response, sound or any other aspect of the engine, so I think it’s a fairly safe bet that it will be good.

If you wait until you can actually drive a GTS4.0 yourself you might have a long wait for one.

The pops and bangs are on the 981 Spyder not the 981 GT4.

That's useful to know. As asked above I'd definitely want a pre EU deal than risk my arm thanks to our baffling PM and co... but that's another thread and story.

I hope to finalise my spec this week. Does a GTS need black wheels? Does Aventurine green look a bit too mature? Does crayon and aurum look a bit too Miami? These are the questions I'm asking myself.

Does a GTS need black wheels? - I'd say it depends on your main colour choice and personal preference.
Does Aventurine green look a bit too mature? - Yes, it's boring as hell for a GTS.
Does crayon and aurum look a bit too Miami? - It will look bloody awful.

You can spec it how you want of course, and the options are there to make it look very vanilla and "grown-up" if that's your bag, but I would embrace all the things that are GTS and unique to model e.g.

GTS interior with alcantara
Python Green
-20mm PASM to maximise the handling
etc etc

That's always the problem. Go into an OPC and ask for a test drive in a GT3, or a GT4, or even the GTS 4.0 (which I accept is not in the same category). or any model which is in high demand. It'll be Don't Call Us, We'll Call You.

Therefore you order it based on what you think its going to be like. Test drive a Taycan, or a Cayenne, or a vanilla 911, no problem.

I got the only slot for this month at my OPC.

I now need to lock my spec.

Auto mirrors/wipers and the red GTS interior pack.

Only £1500ish more than your current spec but that would finish it off for me smile

I prefer the black stitch with green exterior (and i think the red rev counter is too much), so think that extended leather and carbon works alright.

Good point about auto mirror/wipe.

I think the only remaining question is to Bose or not?

And I have an potential issue with the Carbon buckets as i want to be able to take my 5 and 8 year olds (not at the same time) out in it. I know the PGB guidance but there must be seats that fit. I've used to them for years in my Lotuses.

So what exactly is the first date for these cars arriving. I got the call yesterday confirming a Boxster GTS, but the car would be a May build and not into the UK till the end of June. Spec lock down not needed till mid May.

Just noticed you've missed climate control too, and I'd have the reversing camera as well.

Cabin is quite dark in all black - maybe add red seat belts?

Manual car, so why not manual intermittent wipers?

After five cars with rain sensing wipers it's been good to go back to me choosing which gear they're in.

Thoughts on my attempt? Have had confirmation of allocation if I want it (still undecided).
Very much as per my own needs, the main question mark is on the interior. Have tried to brighten it up but is it a bit povo?

Also interested in the need for auto mirrors and wipers?!

Hate auto wipers passionately.

What does the mirror dimming do in lay mans terms and is there any point?

If someone comes up behind you with bright lights the image in the rear view mirror is dimmed, rather than you having to do it manually. Haven't had it on a Porsche but works well on other cars.

That’s what I thought. One of those things I can’t remember remember ever not having!!

Typical Porsche...

Best leave it on the spec sheet

Looks great. i'd drop the red chrono dial though. Not sure lane assist is required either.

Could save £450 if I sacked That off and the homelink which thought I’d removed.

Also, what is the consensus on speed limit display? Is it up to date / auto updating etc. Like the idea of it for keeping myself in check more than anything.

I have a bit of a bad neck so reverse camera and lane change a must for me.

It's camera based, so it "reads" road signs. I've specced it on my GT4 for the same reason - keeping myself aware of the limits I'm in.
