So why did you ditch the 718 in favour of a GTS? I had a 981 Spyder and I did find the roof a pain but I'm not sure I would trade a 718 Spyder for the GTS? Very interested to hear your thoughts as I'm considering the GTS for the usability factor.
I had to sell the spyder to get approval for a mortgage, now I don’t have either it really comes down to price. I can pay 95k for a spyder including overs or I can pay 75k for a gts. There really is no difference in the engine or gearbox, yes the gts has a slightly longer throw but in isolation you won’t realise.

Plus the gts I can spec myself to my own taste. And driving dynamics on the road, the gts is a little softer which is a good thing as my girlfriend found the spyder a bit hard riding. I though it was fine and once up to speed it was really fluid, but at road speeds there really was nothing to separate them in terms of handling wise.

The interior is the same apart from the door handles so really I will take the 20% saving and get more day to day usability. Not that the roof every really bothered me. It takes 20 seconds to put up or down. The biggest practical heifer of going for the gts more so then the roof is the ability to access the rear trunk whenever you want. In the spyder you need to have the roof down to access it

I also have a lambo coming so I’m covered for theatre and frame so something slightly softer for the road will be welcome.

Not dailied, but I have used them for everything from short journeys to roadtrips to track days and find them very comfortable. However, I think it does depend on body shape as they are obviously moulded a certain way and fixed upright. On a day to day basis I would find the ingress/egress the most annoying aspect but still liveable
Cheers mate, I couldn’t help but spec them as they look unbelievable - but have never actually sat in them so am a bit apprehensive!!

Yeah that was my issue when I had them on a 991.2 Carrera T, getting in and out became a PITA.

I didn’t spec buckets as it will be my daily driver same reason for no ceramics. I have something more hardcore coming so wanted this to be a bit softer.

My last car was a 718 Spyder so going to be interesting to compare the two

The spec is very nice. Can I make a couple of suggestions: Maybe worth thinking about the £38 "smoker option", in fact tidies up the centre console by putting a lid on the small tray next to the arm rest. I didn't know about it when I spec'd my Cayman GTS 4.0. I notice you had BOSE, but I personally think it is a very disappointing system. Finally, I didn't get the reversing camera option and wish I had.

So I had Bose on my spyder and whilst not great it was better then the standard one.

Smokers package I forgot about so thanks, and rear view camera was on my radar which I will probably add

Had mine nearly 6 months now, 2300 miles in and still very pleased with it. No regrets at all about selling my GT4 last July to get the GTS.
Only thing I dislike is the Pirelli P Zeros. I really don't get on with them in the cold or wet. They are fine in the warm and dry but I am looking forward to putting PS4S tyres on the car as soon as I can sensibly justify the cost, given how much life is left in the Pirellis.

A couple of weeks ago I saw my actual previous GT4 at the OPC (it's on a different plate now, but my sales executive confirmed that it was my previous car) and it was interesting to compare the two cars in the flesh.

Some of my friends think that Gentian wouldn't suit the 981 GT4 shape, and Sapphire wouldn't suit the 718 GTS shape. I am inclined to agree with them wink

Why the change in the first place? I would have loved a GT4 but decided it wasn’t going to suit the everyday driving i like the GTS for, but have never actually driven a GT4!

I blew hot and cold with the GT4. Great on the right road on the right day, but fairly compromised on the wrong road on the wrong day, and an utter liability when trying to get up and down even moderate inclines. For context, I had a 987.1 Cayman S between 2006 and 2018 including a 2-year overlap with the GT4 and I really, really bonded with the 987 in a way that I never did with the GT4.

The GTS is sort-of the best of both worlds. Performance is at least as strong as the 981 GT4, it's certainly faster in a straight line and through the gears - the engine is tremendous - and while it isn't as sweet-handling and sweet-steering as the 987.1, it's noticeably nicer in the real world than the GT4 in almost all conditions.

I have yet to track the GTS, but I tracked both previous cars mulitple times. About 20 times in the case of the 987.1 and while it won't keep up with a GT4 or GTS on track,.I never felt short-changed by it, either in terms of raw speed, or subjective enjoyment.

Short answer: the GTS is more of the Porsche I want, for much more of the time. I also like the stealthier looks, and personally I think the interior is a bit nicer. Plus I have BOSE on the 718, which wasn't available on the 981 GT4 and for all its shortcomings is miles better than Sound Package Plus in my opinion.

Great spec and not unlike mine (albeit a Cayman). Got the reversing camera and couldn't do without it.

The one option I was talked into was leather around the steering column and I have to say, that's one thing I keep looking at and love picking as an option! The double stitching round it really looks amazing.

I have a PTS slot for a Boxster 4.0 and my head is spinning... can’t decide between signal yellow, olive green or a bright blue like Arrow or Voodoo... HELP

Also love the look of the 718 in metallics like oak green, dark olive or viola / amethyst. But these seem too “serious” for a 2 seat sports car

On the other hand I am 44

What should I do?

It's a really nice spec. I toyed with Gentian Blue on my Cayman, went for Agate Grey in the end but it was a hard choice. Both are lovely colours.

I was advised against alcantara/Race-Tex steering wheel, I think opinions on that are divided, but in any case, if you or someone else reading this were interested, the trick to get leather wheel which is also multifunction is to select both “GT sports steering wheel” AND “Heated multifunction steering wheel”.

Picked mine up last Friday. Rubbish weekend weather couldn’t stop me from taking it for a drive. Great car.

I spent 3 weeks around Christmas deliberating whether I should go for GT4 or GTS. I do plan to track the car a few times a year. At the time I was looking at the ramp on our driveway and it *seemed* like it should be ok in the GT4 but I wasn’t sure.

It scrapes, although only a tiny bit, the front lip of GTS so GT4 would have been a disaster. From that perspective, GTS was definitely the right choice.

Oslo Blue - take a look at Goldjono's Spyder on page 300 of the 718 GT4/ Spyder thread - stunning colour.

Very nice, quite a conservative colour and wheel combo. That is in no way a criticism, we currently have a Cayman 2.0T in GT Silver with silver Carrera S wheels.

Deposit put down on a Cayman GTS build slot last Friday, hoping for build and delivery in October. The configurator has already taken a pounding from me but as usual, paint and wheel colour is bewildering me! I do like the look of your silver wheels as it picks out the slender spokes nicely. It's a nice problem to have.

Had dealer's demo for a day last week. It is Python green, I do really like it but a bit too showy for me and the wife hates it.

BTW the rear boot lid doesn’t seem to fully close, like in the picture. It’s about 5mm from flush. Anyone else with the same problem?

Did you try adjusting the rubber feet the tailgate sits on, try rotating them, see if that helps.
If not, a visit to the OPC for a warranty fix. smile

I would chose only a PTS color which is far away from standard colors.
So I see only viola/amethyst remaining of the above.

Why not the new shark blue?
I don't see PTS on the 718 so valueable as on the GT3 Touring for example.

I don't see people paying 10k more for a 50 or 60k car in some years, only because of the color.
On a 150k car that is a different story and totally different buyers.

My vote would be for the following.....

Brocade Red

Etna Blue

Very different to standard colours and both look good with various wheel and interior options smile

I’m not concerned about resale. For me the tragedy would be to make a choice that I think I love but I don’t really and can’t live with in the long run. Hoping this will be a keeper.

Totally get your logic about a colour that couldn’t be mistaken for a standard one, I agree with that but don’t agree that Olive green doesn’t tick that box. Looks nothing like the greens available as standard.

My latest thinking is that olive green would look great on an Instagram post but become tiresome after a year or so so that has moved down the list.

I really do love the grown up flat dark blues on the PTS list - albert blue, deep sea blue and Pantone 296C. Oslo is lovely too. So it’s between one of them - or yellow. Whether Signal or Bahama I’m not sure.

Just trying to figure out if a man my age looks a bit silly in a yellow Boxster in a way that doesn’t apply to my old speed yellow 993 RS CS which looked amazing in yellow.

I guess the difference is the Boxster is going to be seen by a lot more people (family, clients etc potentially)
