Hi
Letter of intent went into dealership 2 years ago for the Spyder. They are now on their 3rd allocation of cars in March. Chances of getting one of these? Anyone know when production will stop?
Have a 5 year old 3.4 flat 6 Cayman GTS with high spec, so do I wait it out for the Spyder or configure a new GTS 4.0?

First world problem!

No ones knows how many cars, people will guess and keep saying that’s it, but more and more arrive every month.

Spyder is a tough one as it's more hard core and you don’t have easy boot access and it’s not that simple to take the top off, I mostly ran it up as I could not be arsed as the Uk is showers more often than not.

Only you know if you want a Spyder or the more road bias GTS 4.0l or just keep what you have.

Depends how confident you are in getting a Spyder - once you indicate you may have an alternative solution then they'll be keen to get you into a GTS!

I’d get a GTS If you can get one? Why wait for something you may not get.

Both are going to be excellent cars and you can’t go wrong. I’m in the same position with no guaranteed Spyder allocation tho LOI went in years ago and dealership still hedging. I will probably wait until April and if no firm commitment opt for the GTS. At a touch off 400BHP and with the benefit of a fully automatic roof it’s a great proposition and with some additional sound insulation will be a little more civilised on long tours. Great dilemma to have tho.

How long do you fellas reckon it'll be til GTS 4.0 demonstrators will be in the dealerships?

I'm also thinking of getting one of these as my first Porsche. I'd like a GT3 but am put off by how mileage sensitive the values seem to be.

My guess would be March....maybe end of Feb. I would think any OPC would tell you.

I don't like convertibles and have never owned one, but have had a soft spot for the Spyders since the first one (of the new gen, not that old) was launched - just something about them that looks "right" and lightweight

Question I’ve asked myself owning a nearly 5 year old Boxster GTS is - is the new GTS 4.0 that much better than the 981 GTS that its worth the likely £35k cost to change? Yes it has the incremental improvements that 718 has, but it will sound muffled compared with your current car and is only marginally quicker? I’ve decided that as welcome the flat six engine is in the non-track 718 it’s not worth that much to change to be honest

Depends how you intend to use the cars. As a daily the GTS is a far better proposition. As a nice day weekend hoon car a closer call and much will depend on how much you value the individuality of the Spyder and are prepared to put up with the roof. As an "investment" the Spyder should be the better bet - but only if you keep the miles down.

On the mileage front the downside of the Spyder is if you want to retain value you almost can’t drive the thing. It amazes me there are plenty 3-4 year old 981 Spyders with less then 4K on the clock. What was the point in buying the thing if that’s your usage.

Ive ordered a GTS 4.0 in spite of the fact I was in the running for a GT4/Spyder (not guaranteed).

I’m exclusively a road user so a pure GT has never been my first preference.

The exhaust note is important, more too some than others, and my current CGTS sounds amazing. The new car probably wont be quite as good (not a problem to me) but the new engine is a must have before age restricts me to my RR, pipe and slippers...

I've just done the same CGTS. No opportunity for a GT4 for me. Have you been given an expectation on build dates?

What colour/wheel combo have you gone for? I've changed my mind several times already.
Currently have a 718s (Boxster).

I've done the same, can't decide on black or silver wheels with python. Normally I'd go silver but the booster in the launch vid looks pretty sweet on the satin black rims. Is stain platinum a good middle ground maybe?

How nice to see people are allowed to actually just order the car rather than all the usual shenanigans. Albeit not a true GT as such but looks like this is going to be a special car and far more usable.

My OPC also asked if I was interested by even my buy high sell low history couldn't stretch to trading back a car I took in November!

I think the platinum is where I’ll end up. High gloss isn’t for me and jet black loses the wheel design a little I think. Was toying with silver too but think the black goes really well with the Carmine.... and the Python actually which I also really like. The seat choice is my other dilemma. Standard or sports buckets. Day to day you don’t need buckets, on a track though you definitely do imo.

Ive ordered today a Boxster GTS 4.0 litre. I still have my 2015 Spyder, which has full buckets and ceramics and is a lairy colour. The GTS4 I've ordered as GT Silver, satin aurum rims, black roof, sports seat plus 2 way, Black/beige 2 tone leather interior. I've specced the Boxster GTS4 to be a summer daily. I'll keep the Spyder as my Summer Spanish road trip car, where I don't have to piss about with the roof so much.

I'm going for Python with Black on Cayman - Looks so right on the boxster in the launch vid
