Why not?

I bought my GT4 last Nov privately. Very easy deal,
Viewed car and it was just what I wanted,
Agreed price
Seller took car to OPC for fresh MOT and 111 check ( which we agreed to go 50/50 on) total cost was £150 for both
I issue , brake duct pice was replaced and paid for by seller
Car, keys, paperwork left at OPC
I transferred money
Collected car next day form OPC and seller met me there
Bought a 2 year warranty form OPC once existing warranty ran out 2 months after purchase

Enjoying it and seller took delivery of his 718 Spyder

Both happy
Hassle for a start, there are two trips to the OPC for the seller there plus all the prior questions, tyre kicking etc etc from them and any other potential buyers. Time is money as they say!

Most of all, it's the risk of being conned out of the car and the fact that I'm not comfortable with those sums of money being transferred privately.

As I said, YMMV!

How much less would he had got if he had traded it in? £2/3k probably not worth the hassle/risk, over £5k then starts to look attractive.

Another point is some private sellers may have finance to clear, I know it is all doable but yet another layer of risk and hassle

I guess it all comes down to your personal comfort zone. Evosid was clearly comfortable with doing his purchase and it worked out well for both. I was comfortable buying my Cayman R privately (£40K) but when it came to spending double that on my GT4 it was only ever going to be an OPC purchase.

I agree, not worth all the hassle and a chance of being conned!

I’m amazed at people being so worried. You take precautions. With the internet you can do a decent amount of research.

I’ve bought and sold many cars privately and it has saved me tens of thousands of pounds by now. GT4’s are not particularly expensive; 60-80k.

Interesting pricing though; 65-75k for a 981 or late 70k/early 80k for 718.

I’m growing increasingly tempted to buy a 718 at the moment....

Depends on your frame of reference, to the majority of people in the UK they'd be classed as expensive. They certainly are to me.

I think he got about 4-5k more for it from me than a dealer and I saved about 5-6k. Both of happy
Yeah if car has finance and seller has not got the funds to clear it then it can be a hassle. I have bought a car paid the finance company and then the balance to the seller but as you a ball ache

Only 1 trip to drop of car for MOT / 111 point check.
But I see where you coming form.
It is not for everyone and tbh it was only after I met the guy we both felt comfortable. In fact I transferred the money 2 days before I collected it as I trusted him . He could easily have done a runner with the car and the money !!

I am sure if you sell to me I will make it so hassle free you will enjoy it lol
No idea what YMMV means though in this context

The 65-75K is for a decent spec 981 I would hope
70K for a 718 will be quite a struggle as prices going up again. Also at that price I think it will be quite basic but great value all the same
Cheapest 718 GT4 on Autotrader is 85k just now. When I was looking last year you could get a 718 GT4 for under 80K with good spec

As you say as long as you are careful do your due diligent and have some common sense you will be fine buying a car privately

I did say late 70’s, but in fairness you are currently right, the cheapest is 83k, but you might get it very close to 80k.

Why have they gone up? Is it just the seasonal variation eg coming into nicer weather?

Yep seasonal, all sports car prices rise in the spring, as trackdays season commences and the fun in the sun arrives.
This year might be compounded by relative lack of brand new cars in bound also.

The one at £83K is sold and photo s being used as click bait
The ones you can buy are starting at £85K plus
I imagine many had plans of holidays abroad and now staycation is the buzz word so why not splash out on toy for some road trips etc
Also spring is now here so people want use them as soon as buying them as it was a nightmare waiting to us it since buying at the end of Nov
The you have all those shiny new 718 GT4 with engine issues and that has made used supply dry up a bit

good news ig you are selling a car but bad if you are trying to buy I guess

In the market for a GT4.

Anything in particular I should be looking out for/considering?

Seen this one local - https://finder.porsche.com/gb/en_GB/718-Cayman-GT4...

Two previous owners with such a low mileage. Should I be concerned?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks

1 Previous owner might have been the OPC, perhaps registered it as a demo or such, worth asking?

Was thinking that may have been a possibility.

At present it's the only one I know of that's for sale in NI so definitely less supply.

Yeah, I don't really know how the car supply situation differs NI vs Rest of the UK, so removed that assumption from my post. Is there anything to stop you buying a car from a different dealer and having them ship it over, or would you just prefer to see the car in the flesh?

That white one has the all important buckets, which is nice, though no clubsport pack, only relevant if you wanted the harnesses.

Having it shipped over could be an option. What do you reckon the saving could be by going down this route?

Saving I think is a relative term, having just looked I see there are now only 10 up for sale (with OPCs), I could have sworn a month ago there were at least 20 up for sale, they're going up in price too... if you like the white car go for it, if you just preferred a different colour combination, may be worth looking to getting one shipped over?

(But this Guards red one is only one owner, 480 miles and has the CS Pack smile)
