Hi,

Going to view a 718 Boxter S tomorrow and wondered if they was anything particular to look out for?

The car is fairly high on the miles 45k but seems reasonably priced for an S?

I plan to use it as a daily driver and do circa. 10k per annum, I would hope it would get 30mpg on a run being a 4 cylinder or is that unrealistic?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

The car itself will be on PCP I have been offered £2k down and circa £450pm over 4 years which seems reasonable with a balloon of £13k which again seems decent.

Mpg is no problem if you don’t thrash it.

Thrash it and you’ll easily be in the low 20s.

Mine is a base but for what it’s worth:

I have never seen more than 26 mpg in my GTS in two years - mix of a and b roads driven reasonably quickly on average trips of about 100 miles - very little motorway driving.

Deal seems good to me. I wouldn’t expect any equity through the term based on those numbers but if you intend to keep for 4 years it’s no bother. I personally wouldn’t run one without warranty and will be extending mine when it expires but I’m fairly risk averse.

My car is a base manual but MPG as follows:

Driving to and from work, quite a bit of stop/start and rarely over 40MPH = 24-28 MPG

Relaxed motorway journey ~70-75MPH can get up to about 44MPG with a very easy right foot.

No leather dashboard or door trim. For that amount of money I would expect a much higher sense of occasion and a luxury cabin. But if all the plastic trim doesn't bother you then it looks nice.

I gather that but I suppose at this money I cant be too picky in terms of options? Well specified cars are over £40k and this at least has nav and parking sensors

Thanks a lot, that MPG sounds ok... I was getting less out of my 2019 S60 T5 on a run!

Is reliability an issue on these engines then? That was my only other worry really...

In terms of equity no, but I would hope say after 2 years I could get rid if so chucked £3k in or so if I did get bored...

44MPG will equate to a boring run. Tend to find much over 80 increases tyre noise quite a bit so 70-75 is w good cruising speed.

I certainly haven’t had any issues with mine but it’s 2.5 years old and only done 13k. Warranty for mine is roughly £800 a year, over 4 years that’s £3200. Wouldn’t take much to rack up a bill higher than that at an OPC.

Sure I get that, but really for 30K are you happy to end up with such a plastic interior. Take another look at it, it'll be like sitting in a Fisher Price box. I would encourage you to reconsider. But if 100% plastic doesn't bother you, go for it, and happy for you.

Higher spec, full leather dash, center column and door trim, and less miles for not much more money

I think most people will say 'for 30K I expected more of a premium cabin' but hey go with what you seek, this is the problem when one asks for opinions. My opinion holds zero water. If you are happy, I am happy. Congratulations and good luck with your purchase.

Ignore comments about the interior. The standard interior is excellent and high quality. It’s not supposed to be a bloody Manor House drawing room for gods sake.

The mpg varies massively on driving style, but I’m struggling to see how anyone gets 45mpg on anything but an all downhill run!. I achieved 16mpg on my 25 mile run back from the OPC in their 718S courtesy car (inner city stop start, followed by some country roads I know well and was using full engine performance.

I didn’t care one bit about the plastic interior when buying and haven’t once in the last 2 years. I’m sure leather dash is nice however but I certainly wouldn’t let it stop you.

There are so many options, form your own opinion on what is important to you, not others.

It IS supposed to be a bloody Manor House drawing room. For that money, one expects it to be.

I've owned two Boxster S cars, both the earlier 981, and had a 718S for six weeks. The first 981 had the basic dash and door cards, the second has the full leather dash and door cards with contrast stitching. While the latter does make it a nicer place to be, you absolutely won't notice that when you're going. You will notice conveniences like steering wheel controls, cruise control, auto dimming mirrors and things like that.

steering wheel controls + cruise control is just utter clutter. I'd rather NOT notice stuff like that. Quite the opposite opinion. Horses for courses.

+1 My 2lt Boxster has just gone back to the dealer, never saw over 22mpg on B roads in 7 months.

Also, I've driven the 2.5 model which IMV has a much rougher engine feel, more vibration than the 2lt

Perhaps. I had to drive the 50mph roadworks on the M4 every day for ages, and my car didn't have cruise control, so I had it retrofitted. I'd do the same with the steering wheel controls but I don't know if it's possible on my car.

Thanks for the comments all around specification. It depends what cars you are used too I am in a new shape 320d M Sport currently so it will be interesting to see if it feels plasticity in comparison or not...

I have been allowed a test drive so can hopefully see what the fuel consumption is like with my driving style and see what it comes out at.

I saw the car linked but it was £4k more and a private sale and I plan to use PCP rather than buy with cash.

Never driven one before but strangely just got in my car and a 16 plate boxter s was parked next to me and started up and to me it sounded quite nice I suppose it's a case of what you are used too...

The options I would have liked was an LSD and a sport exhaust which I don't believe this example has and is my only sticking point at the moment. I didn't expect to yet a boxter s for £32k though so if I decide it's not the spec for me I may need to hang back a few months and pick one up in winter when convertibles are not as deseriable.
