718 GT4 on track

Damn that grey one sounds good TX.
Last year I dropped into the 2m28s with my stock power 981, with 40hp less than 718, and i'm still quite the novice at Silverstone, and haven't been since October/November last year. I've found the on-pace 991 GT3 and RS - should be down in the region of low 2m20s and below.
I'm hoping for quite a decent drop in my Silverstone time this year if i can get there. Got PCGB Day booked on 24th August.
Glad that you had a good day... and will be interesting to see the development over time...
How far down the straight did you hit 140? - any data or video?.. Porsche Track Precision App should work well with the new car and CarPlay.

JCR OPF delete over axles pipes and ‘Silenced’ Race pipe.
Does sound great...
Shock video where near straight-through exhaust is louder and raspier than stock. Does sound good but I’ll keep my car MoT-friendly personally. Does sound great...

Porsche Track Precision App is still a bit of a pain. When it connects it's great, I wish I knew what I did to connect, aside from turning off mobile data (and I also turned Bluetooth off).
Download .vbo format files and you see a lot of data from the CanBus, much more than OBD port and more than VideoBox systems can access from the CanBus, so I am going to continue wrestling with it.
Connection via CarPlay gives you the timing and delta on the PCM screen with the option of some strangled voice announcing delta/lap time; the PCM display at some circuits may cause issues. You can use it more discretely on a phone, with or without video.
It is getting better but lacks useful instruction manual and any analysis is really only useful when viewed in Circuit Tools on a desk/laptop computer

also noticed the GT3s aren’t getting away much now, and that’s the well driven ones!
.
Times is always a tricky subject because what is a "well driven" GT3 ?.
991.2 GT3's can do 2.18's at Silverstone as an example.
718's are faster than you think on the straights, pretty fast cars these days , 140 is moving on some.
But times are just getting faster and faster, the 991.2 WP RS with R spec's and TTX was there I think, just awaiting a time on that dev JCR car if Jonny posts one. It's going to set some daft new standards for road cars.

Urgh... thats a shame... it had just gotten to a point where it was stable in v2 in late 2018 and then with 2019 v3 it's a ground up rewrite, totally flakey, and missing features. New v3.3 hit my devices today... but i won't bother then and stick with RaceChrono Pro + vBox Sport combo.Download .vbo format files and you see a lot of data from the CanBus, much more than OBD port and more than VideoBox systems can access from the CanBus, so I am going to continue wrestling with it.

I followed your helpful advice via Rennlist but kept the SkyPro GPS and OBD port device with HLT as back-up plus the big clamp you suggested for my GoPro 7B. But overall I found the richer CanBus data more useful for my purpose which is to better understand how I can improve my driving of a manual car (first time in >20 years). I've just bought a professional level windscreen mount for my 128MB iPhone 8S so we'll see how it works out over the next few track days. Perhaps for another thread.Good to hear other's track experiences with the new GT4.

The Manfrotto is shall we say delightfully over-engineered for the task lol - but I love it. I had to do a little bit of a packing job to make sure not rattles or vibrations get picked up.Good to hear other's track experiences with the new GT4.
What are you using for Canbus??- i'm tested an ODB bluetooth dongle (ODBLink MX +) but can only get throttle.. I didn't think that you could pick anything else up on these newer (9x1 onwards) cars from Canbus? would be interested know what you're doing. are there custom PIDs?
@ChrisW - awesome if you'll be on the PCGB day too... looking forward to it.

below CanBus fields that Vbox systems will handle (Source http://www.racelogic.co.uk/_downloads/vbox/Vehicle...
Below, HLT fields using Dual SkyPro GPS XGPS160 for location and OBD port for vehicle data

Well driven is subjective, but I meant the 2 friends I was with in 991.2 pdk cars who weren’t getting away from me. They used to, and I’ve probably done 20 track days with them.
Another friend with an Exige 430, pretty even around there which I was shocked about.
As for the track precision app.......I had it working on my first session before I adjusted tyre pressures or got my rhythm in and did a 2.36. It then refused to work for the rest of the day, said I couldn’t connect the car and my phone wouldn’t connect to the car WiFi network.
Was hitting 140 a couple of hundred metres from the braking point on hangar. Reference point to a friends GT3 he was getting over 150, which is where the extra power shows itself.
Saw Tim Harvey was doing 2.18 in his .2 GT3 which is nearly GT4 race pace , amazing for road cars Another friend with an Exige 430, pretty even around there which I was shocked about.

I’m not claiming to be any good at this, but that was coming out of Chapel as fast as I personally could and nearly running out of kerb on the exit. Just gets into 5th for a couple of seconds before stomping on.
That's exactly what I am doing too. I was in the birch green 981 GT4. Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
