Guesswork indeed, people do seem to love a bit of forum scaremongering. Fact is they are all low volume cars so values will remain strong for as long as the market remains relatively upbeat and I can also say from experience, despite the protestations of existing owners with vested interests in talking up their cars, the 981 is significantly flawed in the key areas mentioned.

Interestingly enough there was a thread in the main section recently regarding fawning press reviews being utterly worthless, quid pro quo arrangements et al, I think given all the hype vs my experience of ownership, the 981 is indeed a massively overrated car.

As for future classics, the 718 apart I currently think my money would be on a 987 manual rather than the 981 with all its flaws, presuming of course you can find one.

That's why I bought a 987.2 Cayman S Manual.

Just not sure what to upgrade too....

Think it could only be a well specced R. I absolutely adore my car and think it is so pretty.

Of more concern would be 718 GTS owners with the 2.5T engine. Currently used ones are around £50-£65k and I am pretty sure these will drop considerably in the short to medium term.

I should mention though that all the above is PURE guesswork biggrin

TBH honest it's why I went with 987, it ticked the boxes: -
Hydraulic steering rack...check
NA engine...check
No petrol particulate filter...check
Don't want a composed GT drive, want excitement/fun/thrills/sounds and smells of a sports car, don't want the car to drive like you're doing 60 mph when you're actually doing over 100mph...

I had a test drive in 718 Boxster base with the idea of PCP, in the end, I bought a base 987.2 base (PASM + DSC v1, PSE, Sport Chrono, PDK, Sport Seats Plus) with the deposit and I'm putting what would have been the monthly payments towards the extended warranty, track days with an instructor and driving trips - did the EVO triangle, Peak District, at some point want to do the North Coast 500...

Absolutely, and that's definitely the benefit of the extended warranty when you can run it up to 15 years and 125k miles, presuming of course you keep paying for premium servicing and parts.

Re-reading this thread I can't believe the number of posters above who got banned - I knew about Cmoose from his love of F6 Caymans smile but didnt realise Rockin' had also been canned. At this rate, this place will soon become even more of a ghost town...

Respected 911 & Porsche World mag ran a Boxster group test back in July 2016,it featured a 986 2.5 vs 986 3.2S vs 987 2.7 vs 987.2 3.4S vs 981 3.4 GTS,makes for a very interesting read, each car naturally has its own merits and the 981 GTS was judged to be a future classic for sure but taking all the core Porsche values into account against all expectations they judged the 987 2.7 to be the best version of the Boxster, make of that what you will..

Ashgood have my Racing Yellow up at £ 48;,995….I traded it in yesterday.

28.5k miles, very high spec car.

Looks a bargain compared to others on sale.

Values threads always go the same way, owners will claim their version is best and argue why, buyers will have their own opinions and sellers will champion what ever version they have to sell.

987 is old and will need work,
981 has poor steering,
718 engine sounds dull.

987 is a great car to drive
981 has a proper 6 pot engine
718 is VERY quick

Buy what you want to drive and after you have driven it, post up a thread on a driving story biggrin
You dont often see good sense on this forum but on this occasion well done sir

At the mo like anything there a bit high, but that didn't stop me paying top dollar for one right now. If you want it you'll pay for it. I think when supply comes back to the market (no one truly knows when this will be, cant see it being soon) all cars will fall a bit maybe. GTS has always held its money well so i dont see why that would change.

Been reading a few threads and seen a couple of recent 981 purchases so thought this thread could do with a bump - please point me in the direction if there is a better 981 thread.

Also I just collected my 981 GTS on Saturday and am smitten! Come from a 987.2 Cayman S and the step feels pretty big in terms of interior quality and finish. I adored my 987 and feel sad I sold it but am very happy with the GTS, especially the noise when you hit the binoculars button!

There do seem to have been a fair few 981 S/GTS purchases recently. Agreed on the noise being incredible. What colour did you go for? We need a new owners thread - I collected mine on Saturday too biggrin

I keep toying with a 981 GTS.

But i have this nagging concern that mid-50k for a 2016 car just feels…. a bit wrong.

If you want to convince yourself that is reasonable, then think about getting a 2016 GT4 instead :-)
