Aventurine Green or Jet Black? 718 Boxster GTS 4.0

This model is not the best in terms of options available.
I disagree, I think it's one of the most configurable cars they've done. You can have it very alcantara/GTS or full leather/luxury, very Jekyll or Hyde, along with the sportier suspension options or more comfort based.I think buying used in the future will be even more of a nightmare than usual given the huge range of options available.

Twinfan - most cars tend to be very safe/resale spec’d. Finding anything interesting or individual is a big problem. So many cars are purely monochrome. Porsches suit silver as they are understated and very nicely sculpted, but vive la différence!
At least when buying second-hand, you very quickly know if the spec works for you.

Oh true, I agree on a general level. However if you really want a particular combo e.g. BOSE and full leather with a reversing camera then you may struggle even to find that combination straight away. On other cars you get a small number of packs which make things a lot easier.
Most people will spec GTS pack , and bose and camera on the GTS I would say.non GTS pack cars will not sell well down the line.
daft colours will be rare. loads of cars for sale atm all nice spec for £72k lesser specs start with a 6.
It’s an interesting one. I kind of see the 718 4.0 GTS as a slightly larger capacity 981 3.4 GTS, or even a highly-spec’d 3.4 “S”.
The major change between 981 and 714, as far as I can see, was the switch to turbo 4 cylinders. Now that’s no longer the case with the 4.0, is it more of a facelift over the previous 3.4.
Perhaps people will cite the steering feel improvement. But has anybody driven a 2016 981 GTS against the first 718’s? I have more than a sneaking suspicion that the steering software and mechanicals were continuously improved over the 981 lifecycle.
I’ve never driven an early 981 or early 714, so could be speaking out of my hat.

I owned an April 2016 981 GTS, one of the last produced, and have driven a couple of 718 loaners. The steering of the 718 is faster/quicker and a little heavier or feelsome. But only a bit. The difference is more in the speed of response to small movements.
I personally preferred the slower rack of the 981 as it was less sensitive, the feel/weight difference was negligable.

The facts are these models are the worse steering cars in Porsche history past and future. I just could not own one, they really are pretty st.
Interesting. Feels spot-on (981, 2015) to me. I get sufficient feedback, it’s a good weight, it doesn’t tramline or get bounced off line, very natural ratio, feels special enough.I’m sure older Porsches have much more “talkative” steering, but many cars did. They were also hard, or even dangerous, to drive in bad weather. I’d rather lose 10% in absolute feedback on the road and be much safer 100% of the time.
To each their own and I’m new to this brand so may be seen as naive. But just calling it s*** or similar is doing it a massive disservice.
Reminds me of the same line with Aston’s Sport Shift transmission.

Not facts - your (latest) OPINION which as usual is 180 degrees opposite from a few weeks ago when you were about to buy one. And please stop saying everything is s**t - at least find a better way of expressing your OPINION or if that’s impossible perhaps just don’t post.elisered said:

The steering may not be to 911Rs taste but it's not unusable. It's the same old diatribe from the forum's most vociferous moaner.
I found myself near the Central London dealer this evening which had an Aventurine Green 718 and a Lava Orange 718 GTS 4.0 in the showroom. I picked up my Carrara White GTS 4.0 a month ago. I spent ages wondering if I made the right decision. I think on balance I did *for me*.
I did not get the apparently (on here) compulsory GTS pack because I totally and utterly detest Alcantara. It is vile. In my opinion. I cannot believe people actually pay money for more of this stuff. My bitter regret is not spotting I had forgotten to remove it from the A pillars and roof. I wanted it nowhere to be seen. The dealer telling me this is a £900 option on the 911 after it was too late to remove it did not make me feel better. So to read comments that cars won't sell because they don't have this material interior or that? I am not in a position to judge. But different people like different things. Porsche are to be applauded for giving people such a choice. So many wonderful cars are posted on here from people who have made their choices. Every single one looks different.
Aventurine Green is a stunning choice and to my eyes better than black, but all you can do is narrow it down, sleep on it and then go with your instinct.

I'm glad it's not just me! Other opinions are available, but I too loathe alcantara. Leather; love it, the more the better. Porsche should offer a "Replace Every Bit Of Alcantara With Leather" pack as an option.I did not get the apparently (on here) compulsory GTS pack because I totally and utterly detest Alcantara. I agree with you on the Alcantara. I hate the stuff. I don’t like the look of it, to me it looks cheap, but even more I can’t stand the feel of it.Aventurine Green is a stunning choice and to my eyes better than black, but all you can do is narrow it down, sleep on it and then go with your instinct.
So I removed every trace of from my car and very glad I did.

I'm another who wouldn't buy a GTS with alcantara, even my Boxster Black Edition had a full leather interior.......to join the Jet Black vs Aventurine Green debate, I wouldn't have another Porsche with Jet Black paintwork, it was the softest paint of any car I've ever owned, chipped and scratched at the slightest thing, even gentle washing.stewieyan said:
I am now not sure about AG - for some reason can't picture myself wanting to drive it often.
How about GT Silver with the 20 inch Carrera Sport wheels? I believe those wheels are silver too.
I wanted to avoid silver because my current 987 is silver but... it's a great colour which is bright and classic, stays clean for long but also not too much in your face, no?
I'm opting for standard black interior with some alcantara bits and black brushed alluminium trim. Get 3 shades of black inside, and a bit of a standard plastic silver - not a lot of room to be creative with the standard interior.
