Hi All, just running some numbers and the base seems by far to be the best value Cayman.

Amazed how good all Porsches are at holding their value though over something like an Alpine A110.

Obviously used would be even better value, but I quite feel like buying a new one.

Shame as I quite fancied a 4.0 GTS, but it seems to work out much more expensive.

Depends how you define ‘value’, really. I’d get what you want and worry about residuals later, unless that’s your primary driver. If so, I suspect a 981 will be a better proposition.

Worth pointing out that for a GTS4.0 with fairly light options, you can get a nicely optioned 981GT4, which will undoubtedly be a better store of value than those listed; and in my view, much more special.

Pound for pound I'd say that the base 718 Caysters are the best value/performance cars Porsche sell today.

Probably a used manual Cayman R with zero depreciation.

Problem with those figures is who buys a base car with no options? Nobody. Add some of the so called necessary options into it and you’re equal with the alpine

As above - that spec of Alpine has auto gearbox, leather, cruise control, parking sensors with camera and LED headlamps.

Porsche will want

£2k for PDK
£2261 for leather
£228 for cruise
£1086 for parking sensors with a camera
£1397 for LED's

Which is near enough 7k - making a "base" car nearly 52k

Probably a dealer demo 3 month old OPC vehicle, well specced and 'universally' desirable for the next buyer.

Best value rarely equates to cheapest though.

These days its easy to know the cost of everything, however the non-fiscal value can be immeasurable. And value is a matter of opinion ultimately, no?

Nonsense. You only need to add parking sensors and cruise.

Five years and 40k miles later in my poverty base spec and I’m still loving it.

I’m not sure ~£500 changes the numbers much (and you don't really need either), but in truth a base spec car is nowhere near the £52k referenced above.

True but if you are going to spec the car like for like with the alpine say then you do match the price once you have done that.

Interesting- but can you get the Alpine without all those options? I didn’t think they made a manual one.

You can get a lower spec one for about 48k but it’s still auto and still has leather etc.

Thanks all, some interesting responses.

As for the 48k Alpine, no thanks - especially when I can get 4% off a non optioned manual base Porsche from someone like Coast2Coast that will hold its value far better.

981 GT4 is a good suggestion, but aren't these are now coming up to 5-6 years old ?

Maybe the best option is to buy from existing dealer stock.

They are about that age, but 981s have proved to be very robust, and you’ll easily find a nicely-specced one for GTS4.0 money with 4-digit mileage.

I fully understand the desire to spec your own car and be the first owner - but certainly don’t be concerned about age if you do consider a GT4 (or any 981). If you get it from an OPC it’ll have 2 years of warranty included.

Horses for courses, I suppose. Very nearly bought a 718 back in 2016, and that’s not far from what my planned spec was, so obviously appeals to me.

Surely a GT4 or Spyder as you could buy that now , drive it for 1-2 years and sell it for close to what you paid for it
