I’ll never understand constant chatter about cars folk don’t own.

Enjoy what you drive, or sell up and move on.
Procrastination over prices past, present or future of cars you don’t own (and apparently have no interest in owning) just spams the place out.
Quite.

He has an unhealthy obsession and reputation across the Porsche forums by constantly slagging off and talking down 718s for some reason despite never even driving or owning one and has openly admitted to having no intention of either.

Weird and all very odd indeed.

Doubtful especially bearing in mind the oldest 718 is almost 5 years newer than the oldest 981 which has clear ramifications for residuals as we get nearer to the max 15 year official Porsche warranty expiry.... as the 991.1 GT3 currently proves.

No doubting the 981 GT4s abilities but the engine deficiences from its boggo and strangled C2S non GT lump are its biggest achilees heel especially having regard to the huge advantages from the way better 718 GT4s almost GT3 comparable storming engine.
the 991.1 gt3 residuals are purely the engine risk which the 981 gt4 does not have that's why the 991.2 gt3 is so far ahead on value (unless someone finds a fix!).

The simple fact is the 718 and 981 gt4's are both brilliant and will never be made again so you won't lose your shirt on either.
Fair points and having owned both the 981 and 718 GT4s (manual) and both the 991.1 GT3 and 991.2 GT3 (CS manual) all from new the 981 GT4 by coincidence I kept for the shortest time largely due to its engine deficiences being the only essentially non GT Porsche Carrera 2 S engine in a Porsche GT.

The 991.2 GT3s engine is a masterpiece no question and there is an obvious reason why it is basically the same unit still used in the latest 992.2 and not only is it very durable compared to even the revised G series engine in the 991.1 but it has much better power and torque delivery with far less drop off approaching the 9k redline too.

Agree in contrast to the 991.1 GT3 there have been relatively few issues overall with the 981 GT4s engine but my point was that basically any Porsche approaching the 15 year official warranty expiration deadline will tend to be naturally adversely affected residually as will the 981
Spyder being of the same age.

Firstly I have never slagged off the 718 quite the opposite!
Secondly everyone is entitled to an opinion on things they don’t own (property, cars etc) or government bodies etc they don’t belong to or do with live in a dictatorship now. So I will happily post about values on a values discussion, you never see me posting about values on any other threads but there again you never talk about driving your cars only about talking up values when your thinking of selling!
The 718 gt4 is a very good car but the 981gt4 is a great car the engine niggles can be sorted easily but you cannot remove the GPF from a 718!
So I have owned a 981Gt4 I sold it but I don’t miss it. Currently a 2 seater Porsche doesn’t suit my needs but if I was to buy another new Cayman it would be the 718 4.0 GTS as imo it’s a better road only car than the Gt4 and it’s basically a Gt4 touring the Gt4 has aero you would never need and the front suspension of the gt3, and not the full chassis as you quoted previously!
And I love the comment about the 718 engine being like a gt3 engine what a joke. Funny that the Gt4 cup car uses the 981 engine and not the 718!

But you have never even driven both cars let alone owned them unlike myself so how the fk would you even know??

Both myself and the esteemed and highly knowledgable poster Twinfan (PCGB member who posted on PH) both agreed and posted many time that the 718 GT4 including its engine was effectively 85% of a GT3 but at a substantially reduced cost, basically because it is a Cayman as opposed to a 911. He owned a Racing Yellow 718 GT4 CS manual from new using it extensively and
took delivery of a new earlier run car to mine.

You know I have run my 718 GT4 from new alongside a 991.2 GT3 manual CS which I sold to a fellow enthusiast PHer in 2023 after 5 years and 8k miles so unlike you I have extensive experience of both cars running them simultaneously. I also ran a new 981 GT4 and new 981 Spyder alongside each other taking delivery of both cars in late 2015. So again, unlike you I have direct comparable and real world experience of these cars.

Sounds like you need to get some proper experience of these cars and drive them before you post your pie in the sky opinions tbh and finally if you don't think there is any accuracy in an owners opinion such as myself then you could always do some quality bedtime reading on the cars which would simply further back up the accuracy my posts:
delivery

Everyone is different, and likes different things. For me the 981 is way more fun car to drive mainly down to overall steering feel, sound track and rawness, but thats my preference yum .

[Not sure why anyone is comparing GT4s to GT3s? ]

The PH article must have had an effect on GT4s, I missed out on two Clubsports this morning much to my annoyance, both sold today.

One of the cheapest, if not the cheapest, is on eBay of all places.

Immaculate with PCCB's

I did see that, the miles are just a tad high which is a shame as the spec is spot on

This one is very nice. Been for sale a while so you could maybe strike a deal. It has the larger fuel tank (which must be a bonus) and though not a club sport it has the Manthey Roll Bar fitted which I'd hazard a guess would be better than the Porsche one.

That is my old one. I think it’s totally unique with the cage painted yellow and the harnesses colour matched to the stitching. Mighty tricky job on a brand new car getting the cage out to be painted. I did the first 10,000 miles before it was a year old. It was run in very carefully and then thrashed senseless laugh Great car when I had it.

Picture when it was brand new: worn well for the miles.

Excuse the stickers, I liked it!

Another Sapphire Blue Metallic owner here - owned since February of this year and having zero regrets thus far.
Absolutely sublime cars out of the box and plenty of aftermarket support to push the envelope of the car on track.

The last of a characterful, un-muted flat 6.
Utter joy to use on the road.

Shame about the crappy ditchfinder Nankang tyres which will clearly need replacing.

Bizarre but in that side photo the colour looks more like Riviera Blue but Sapphire met is nice especially with the yellow internal accents.

Great pic of the 'Batty Moss' viaduct at Ribblehead.

Driven that route numerous times some of my favourite driving roads in the UK.

The semi slick variants of Nankang tyres are something very different to the 'ditchfinder' low end tyres Nankang used to be renowned for.
Nankang AR1 & NS2R are well known within the track day enthusiast circles.

I have some money coming in on Friday and was going to get a 718 GT4. I'm extremely tempted to offer £50,000. I'd have to sort a warranty and I'd change the tyres but I do love the car.

If you pull that off for 50k it’s a bargain!! Relatively speaking

I’m still on the hunt for one, I’m not overly fussed if it’s a Clubsport, I want buckets, preferably cruise and a decent infotainment set up as I plan using it as much as possible in the nicer weather and we have a euro trip planned for August
