Ordered a Boxster GTS 4.0 in Feb 2011, with delivery for April 2022, dealer informs me today that he has no allocation and no idea when he will. Very frustrating. Does anyone know what the workflow process is?

My guess (with some gaps):

ORDER PLACED -> DEPOSIT PAID -> ?? -> ?? - ALLOCATION MADE -> FINAL SPEC CONFIRMED -> EST DELIVERY DATE -> ACTUAL DELIVERY DATE

I'm looking to collect some data on this. If you're interested, I have a spreadsheet here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/127d1AypKv4...

Feel free to add your data. Would be interesting to do some analysis.
I only placed my order and paid a deposit when the dealer had an allocation to offer - otherwise it's just open ended.

Order is only placed once you have an allocation, up until that point you are merely in a queue waiting.

Intent to Order ( Deposit ) > Allocation Offered > Spec Locked / Finance Locked > Estimated Delivery Date > Delivery

That's certainly how it worked with my GT4

Had two deposits for a GT4 (one of which was ordered as a GTS4 on the off-chance it could be upgraded) at two dealers for months and months. I finally pulled the plug after six months with no communication or any indication about availability, build slots, build times, expected deliveries etc.

When I asked for my deposits back I was told by both dealers... wait, we might be able to get a slot soon. Really? Just as I pull the plug both dealers stick their heads above the parapet?

Great, so I get a slot, when am I likely to get a car...?
Er we 'think' maybe sometime in Q2 2022...maybe.

Porsche ordering is a st show.

I have jumped ship and gone with another brand. I'm not going to be carrot-dangled on the off-chance that Porsche might 'let me' buy one of their cars on a schedule that is indeterminate at best.

In the meantime they launch the GT4 RS; Great, another car that no one can actually buy whilst customers are still waiting for any crumb of an idea when they 'might' get a vehicle.

I know Porsche is an 'aspirational brand' but for a company that has spent the last 90 years 'continuously evolving' they ought to get their customer service sorted because that is far from aspirational.

I know the world is in a bit of a mess at the moment and production is 'difficult' at lots of manufacturers but most seem to be able to set expectations and actually produce cars.

Agree, I have 80K ready to buy my new Porsche but OPC doesn't want my money, obviously I'm not considered good enough as I haven't bought enough cars, so I won't buy another Porsche. The whole process is rigged so that OPC can sell to their friends and split the profit on overly inflated nearly new 2nd hand prices. I'm aware that my local OPC called a regular customer asking if he wanted to order a new GT4, the guy is 70 and doesn't want another low sports car. but OPC said don't worry we'll sell it for a profit for you. The whole thing stinks.................nono

Which is obviously the right thing to do, vote with your feet etc

Unfortunately the Porsche brand is so strong they would not give a toss either way, for every person that walks there are several there waiting to step in.

Until that changes where is their incentive to change or improve anything they do?

I can only speak as I found it but I literally made an enquiry, popped in, placed an order, got a car. No nonsense or requirements just a minor wait for availability, which they were quite transparent about. I spoke to 3 dealers at the time and they were all open and accommodating and really quite keen for the order.

I've bought a couple of OPC Porsches' before but honestly they really didn't give 2 sh***s about that (especially given the crazy low trade they offered on my 981 GTS!)

Overall I was quite happy with the process, no different really to ordering the last couple of Beemers I had.

Maybe just a case of trying a different OPC, don't give up smile

Similar story here, I approached 4 different OPCs in may 21 and all were happy to take a deposit for a cayman 4.0GTS, one who I have a previous history with was happy to discuss a GT4 order with no guarantees but cautiously optimistic. I put a deposit down in September Had the call last Friday to confirm an allocation for a GT4 for delivery in June. I’m not sure how much that has changed now as it appears the orders are pushing delivery dates further out on many models.

Maybe the chance of getting in good resale stock as part of the deal might make them try a little harder to supply a car, irrespective of whether they actually end up getting the p/ex or not.

Maybe but I don't think so, I already had a trade bid on the car that was 5/6k more than their offer so they knew before the order was placed they'd be no p/ex and it was never discussed after that (I didn't order the car until a few weeks later).

I used OPC Reading, but at the time also had Portsmouth and Swindon equally happy to serve.

West London never got back to me despite buying my previous GTS there!

I would also check https://www.coast2coastcars.co.uk/, they will direct you to a main dealer with the best offer (although I doubt there are any offers at the moment). I've bought a couple of non-Porsche's through them, it was a slick process and the have SLAs with the dealers to ensure you are followed up promptly (within 24hrs back then)
