This thread seems to have been quieter of late so hope this means the issue is now resolved, all be it with a hard reset required. Mine went in last week, battery drain down takes 24 hours plus another 12 for Vodafone to do something or other, but 2+ days later all seems to work.

Although as I don't need the tracker, I'm not sure what I get of much value out of this connectivity as I'm using Apple car play for my connectivity requirements
Mine was finally sorted week before last after 4 months of inoperability. Long delay was more me than the OPC, I find the tracker difficult to care about. Seems to have worked fine after losing the car for a couple of days while they did a "hard reset". Also note lack of functionality for anyone that enjoyed earlier versions; nothing that I actually need, but it was kind of fun to sound the horn or flash the lights remotely.

Has anyone given up on the Vodafone service and tried an alternative tracker?

Presumably any hard-wired tracker voids the warranty, so it's all a bit Hobson's Choice, is it not?

Article in Saturday Telegraph last weekend. Guy had his £65k Range Rover nicked from his driveway and insurers refused to pay out as his tracker was not working. Went to Ombudsman who agreed with the Insurer and the fella lost £65k…
Lesson = If you have insurance that mandates a Tracker it’s your responsibility to make sure it’s paid for and working…

I would be inclined to check that with OPC/Porsche you might be entering a grey area

It wouldn't be reasonable for Porsche to reject a warranty claim on say a failed engine for an aftermarket tracker. The element of warranty that could be affected is any electrical problems after a hardwired after market tracker has been fitted. Even still its not as simple you have no electrical warranty, it would need to be reasonable to assume that the aftermarket tracker/component is the source of any fault or failure.

FYI I've had an aftermarket tracker professionally fitted, as I really, really do not like the Cobra/Vodafone system particularly not being able to "check" myself that the thing is still actually working.
The ongoing and upfront cost of going aftermarket will take quite a few years to pay off vs just paying Porsche/vodafone subs.

I test mine regularly by forgetting to take the fob with me.

You may have a reasonable argument if you are buying new. The Porsche extended warranty is a different matter. Things that void that are extensive, and well documented. They include leaf guards, and hardwired dash cams, so a hardwired tracker is going to trigger a void. It's not a discussion, you want the warranty, have a perfectly standard car.

you may well be correct however I think you are at the very least putting yourself into argument territory which is why I suggested checking

Just buying a used car with a Vodafone tracker that I need to activate for the insurance. Can anyone point me in the right direction for guidance to activate? I’m intending to phone them but wondered if I need to know anything else before I phone them?

I renewed mine online via the Porsche Connect portal. Could well be an option in there to activate.

I phoned them direct from the car, with the fobs in hand when i bought used with a Voda tracker, they did some security checks and it was set up within the hour.

I’ve had real fun and games with this. Basically told cannot activate tracker until car in my name, with copy of v5 emailed to them, and insurance wouldn’t cover for theft until tracker activated. No grace period. Have had to cancel the insurance before it started, found another insurer who would give me 21 days grace to get the tracker set up. Then I have to take the car to an opc to have it ‘paired’. This has to be within the 21 days. Took a day of phoning round to find an opc with workshop capacity to fit it in within this period. Most were quoting August. Surely it has to be easier than this!

Thanks for this, sounds sensible and straightforward! Did you have the v5? It might be because my car is a 2018 that I have to go through the Porsche connect system now?

Both! And that’s relayed to me and the supplying dealer and via several opcs….

Voda wouldn’t speak to me until I got the v5 in my name emailed to them. They spoke to the supplying dealer and referred him to the opc network. Dealer is independent not opc.

I bought a 2021 Boxster GTS in May from an distant OPC. Prior to delivery they weren't able to connect the tracker fobs to the car due to Vodafone Network problems but suggested I take it to a local OPC, 5 minute job.

Took it to Brooklands OPC on Friday after 2 hours waiting they were unable to pair due to Vodafone Network Problems again. Another customer there had exactly the same problem.

The weak link in this system is Vodafone the worst company I have the misfortune of trying to deal with.
