GT4RS - Availability, what’s the latest?

I didn’t get to test drive a 4RS before I bought my NATO Olive car, luckily no buyers remorse on my part- I love the 4RS.
I do think the OPC’s and specialist garages would shift more cars if they were open to giving prospective buyers test drives- it’s a lot of cash to part with if you are not 100% sure…
I've had quite a few test drives of Porsches over the years. Problem with the GT4 RS was that there weren't many demo cars, none aside from PEC Silverstone and a "press" car to my knowledge. There was not much point in offering test drives either, as even this time last year, they were oversubscribed for allocations taken by people that hadn't had access to a car to try, but had placed an order anyway. I do think the OPC’s and specialist garages would shift more cars if they were open to giving prospective buyers test drives- it’s a lot of cash to part with if you are not 100% sure…
So I ordered one without getting a test drive too, but never really asked for one. I felt it was kind of immaterial to me; my 5th Cayman, my 4th 718 Cayman, and my 2nd Cayman GT. I was pretty much bound to like it, and at the time it looked a relatively safe place to put the money.

@Digga, I'm surprised the OPC in question hasn't just arranged a 1/2 day, or even 1/4 day at PEC Silverstone in the model of interest for your friend. That's what my local OPC did for me when I was interested in a 718 Cayman when they first came out. They also let me loose in their 718 Boxster demo for an extended test drive once they got it, and arranged drives in a few different low mileage used 981 Cayman variants so I could be sure I liked the 2.0 turbo engine and manual gearbox.

I just drove yours for a few minutes then a few weeks later the 991.1 GT3 was sold and a new GT4RS arrived :-)I do think the OPC’s and specialist garages would shift more cars if they were open to giving prospective buyers test drives- it’s a lot of cash to part with if you are not 100% sure……the rare times I’ve asked for a test drive of a Porsche I know what the response is going to be…..the cars normally sit there gleaming in the showroom- they sure ain’t going for a spin

I respect your no nonsense and speedy approach to the GT3 departing and a new 4RS sitting in the garage. Only here once!

I think I might be giving him a lift over to the RS day to say hi. Who buys a new car when you can’t even drive for 3 months, lol

My “free” Experience opportunity came through almost immediately after the allocation was confirmed so I deliberately booked it early before the specification locked just in case I had any buyer’s remorse and wanted to pass on the slot. Needless to say there was none. 🤪Liam
I called in at OPC Perth today, it may have been specified by someone else but the gentian blue new 4RS they have has been very nicely specified imho
I own a gentian blue one too which is a bit more of a stealth spec with a few more options but the blue and yellow contrasts on Perth's car is very nice.

I give the order number to PEC and arrange visit date myself. Dealers/process normally too slow to get drive before spec is locked. After buying a couple of cars from Porsche Edinburgh including a 718 GT4 and seeing the market was changing, I made enquires about a 4RS early last year...... got the usual nonsense about none available, it's a special car, etc, etc. The salesman knew I was not interested in playing their silly games and buying crap I did not want and he also knew I was not willing to take finance. The conversation went no further.
I was just waiting for this to happen...

Maybe they now realise that it's a buyers market. Mugs.

Mugs is a bit strong I think. There must be a finely weighted business case for how the OPCs are operating at the moment. Clearly the majority of them would rather spec their own cars for stock than pick up the phone and chase the “lengthy waiting list of potential clients”. They obviously feel the halo effect of good showroom stock is better than a one off sale to a savvy customer who they may well never see again. The OPC stock is generally very well specified which leads me to think the margin on the options is high thus giving more room for maneuver in subsequent negotiations.I was just waiting for this to happen...

It’s a gamble being played out at almost every OPC at the moment and not just for the 4RS. I would be interested in what discount level represents a “loss” for the dealer?

Madness by Porsche Edinburgh, if they had your details, why on earth didn’t they contact you?I was just waiting for this to happen...

There are currently eight brand new, unallocated GT4 RS cars for sale on the Porsche UK site. Personally, I think these cars will need to be discontinued to have any real chance of selling.
Does anyone remember the lowest UK used retail price for a GT4 RS ?

I tend to think that when it comes to Porsche Edinburgh you are correct about the "halo effect of good stock" . They currently have a GT4 which I was keen to purchase though not at the £95k they were initially asking . Its since been reduced to £92k .It’s a gamble being played out at almost every OPC at the moment and not just for the 4RS. I would be interested in what discount level represents a “loss” for the dealer?
Graeme the Sales Manager told me it was priced inordinately high in the hope that someone looking for the best in the Country would buy it . To date obviously that tactic hasn't worked out for him so I hope he is content with it looking good in his Showroom and savvy buyers going elsewhere .
I went down to Porsche Wolverhampton which incidentally was where the Edinburgh car originated from and it was a different ball game . Instead of believing they possess the Holy Grail the Salesmen see it as a numbers game and its very much "lets get them out the door"
There was one 4RS in Shark Blue sat under the cover awaiting collection by its Owner . "He won't be in today " said the Salesman . "Who wants to pick up
a car like that when its raining"

It is challenging to see it as a game when it can also be seen as offensive by a person who has bought a number of cars already from that OPC.
And so inept of the sales-person.
14 months ago this OPC had discounted a high spec low mileage four month old GT4RS to £155k. Significantly under list.
