I fitted the same head unit albeit in a gen 1 987 but works seamlessly with the Apple car play function and with the correct adaptors it’s all plug and play ??
I looked at that and I prefer the oem look .andygo said:
I fitted a Sony XAV 550 system to my 981. Pretty straightforward. I have DAB and Carplay. Also drags the cabin into the 2020's.
Just works without dismembering the standard Porsche unit. Fitted two examples now into my previous 987.2 and now my 981

The Joy Auto Carplay module is a better route than the NM automotive one in my experience. It has more control for EQ and so on so you can really improve the sound quite a bit over standard.
I have done this myself by following the several youtube tutorials. The sections are 1) remove unit 2) split unit and add circuit board 3) put unit back together and in car 4) wire up joyauto box 5) refit trims etc 6) enjoy refreshed system. Has worked faultlessly since install 4 mths ago. Apart from a few skinned knuckles and sweary bits, its doable by a novice. Take your time, watch a section of video, take it step by step. JeffC said:
Well I have ordered one, 5-10 days shipping so will see how it plays out. £251 shipped was the end cost with a discount code .
Looking forward to seeing how you get on with this - I'm tempted to get one for my 981 cayman. The PCM is the only weak point of the car IMO (Ive only had the car a month).mattknight1984 said:

yeh It feels really dated compared to our Macan, first thing I noticed when I picked the car up but strangely after a week I am sort of getting used to it but if the carplay is as good as it looks it will fetch it up to date.

If the interface was a little less long winded, which I think is the real problem, it would show it in a better light.
I look forward to following your progress, this add on could be just the job.
Watching this thread with interest too as I'm looking to add Carplay to my Cayman which has the CDR-31 (or CDR3.1, the basic unit whatever it's called!).
I've looked at the JoyeAuto, NMAutomotive, Isudar and various other similar units and it's hard to choose, but the big difference in price is making me lean towards ordering the JoyeAuto off AilExpress or Alibaba.
There also seem to be various knock-offs of (I think) the Unichip unit which also seems to be good and they are by a long way the cheapest at around the £170 mark plus shipping. Units by Mekede, TomoStrong and Fellostar:
https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&i...
Anyone have any experience of these units?
Also JeffC do you have a link to the unit you ordered and perhaps the discount code?
Many thanks!

I have the Joyauto kit in my car which I fitted myself and works brilliantly. However if I was to do it again I would use the 'Isudar' kit as everything is then internal and no additional external wifi box or power source required.
Highly which ever option you go for it is so much nicer to get into my Cayman and a minute later my phone connect wirelessly to apple car play on the PCM.

Yeah I don't think they do one for CDR-31 either. I messaged them and they asked me to send pictures of the CDR-31 which I did but then didn't hear any more...
Hard to tell if any of these boxes actually support the CDR-31 apart from the JoyeAuto.
Does seem for our CDR units, JoyeAuto is the best option.Hard to tell if any of these boxes actually support the CDR-31 apart from the JoyeAuto.

I thought the 981s had a PCM 3.1, is there a CDR-31 option(?), and if so what is the difference between them?Hard to tell if any of these boxes actually support the CDR-31 apart from the JoyeAuto.
This shows the difference between PCM 3.1 & CDR31:
https://thecarplayer.com/blogs/news/difference-bet...
Basically the CDR-31 doesn't have Nav and has CD/Aux & Sat buttons whereas the PCM 3.1 has Navi & Map buttons.

I too have the CDR 31, and want to have a go at one of these. I don't think Isudar offer a solution for CDR?
