This is a Porsche sub forum. Not Audi. Or any other brand that are probably better value for money or even perhaps better cars.

U sure ur not an audi man TT monkey? I'm just pointing out to the OP how silly it would be to spend £60 K on a Boxster given the alternatives...but if he really wants an overpriced Porsche then crack on!

Well I'm pretty sure you're in the miniority on that, I'd say the Spyder with roof down is the best looking variant...nobody would give a Boxster GTS a second glance next to one.
Certainly something in the vaccine to call an r8 spyder ugly.

Back to the original question of whether it is worth it, for that money there’s actually not much else I’d want. I posted earlier about buying a 981 Spyder for around £70k and yes, I could have had a 911 (I did) or a Ferrari or an R8 but rather than perceived value, I’d far rather own and run the 981.

Is this madness?
Is it worth £62k, probably not, but is any used sportscar currenty on sale worth what they are selling for?

If it is what you want, make them a sensible offer on it and let them decide, it is an OPC car which comes with two years of hassle free motoring, not something to dismiss on a car this age.

They are not making any more, how long until you find another one that ticks all the right boxes for you.

Personal choice but the colour would kill it for me, I had a 911 Gts in carmine and it always looks too dark in the flesh. I bought my 981 GTS earlier in the year, I hunted around for a Speed yellow one ( I wasn't sure they made one) but the pics of the one in this thread are stunning, that was exactly what I was after, I ended up with a nice spec car in Guards red and 20,000 miles.

Prices have jumped up this last 18 months and I was late to the party so paid more than I would have liked but in today's market it would look a bargain.

Not sure I could bring myself to spend £62k on one though and having previously owned a Spyder I wouldn't spend the extra money and I personally would take a 981 GTS PDK over a 981 Spyder every time.

If it was a bit cheaper I would already have bought it. But it’s the best one in the market currently and it looks superb.

But 62k?

I don’t even know how much this cost new.

Is it that special?

Yes the R8 in coupe form is not particularly good looking to my eye. But the convertible looks very good + a V10. Ymmv of course since this is the Porsche forum after all!

£ for £ just shows what that kind of budget could buy.

If the OP's instincts are telling him it's mad then I think he's right

All this talk of 'missing the boat' etc. That normally precedes you know what with any asset price.

Odd as the carmine reds always see, to be the most expensive.

I bought my BGTS in late 2020 for £49k, and love it. It’s similar spec to this Carmine one, but with buckets. X73 is fine imho btw.

The only thing missing from both, which would be a dealbreaker if I was buying another (and for a moment I considered swapping my Rhodium Silver car for this red one - mine in silver is a bit boring), is proper climate control. Without it, you’re endlessly fiddling with the hot-cold & fan speed toggles.

Agree with the Climate Control comment.
I had two 981 Caymans - an S with basic Aircon (never again) and a GTS with Climate.

I can’t believe Porsche even offered the basic system, and can only believe that buyers spec’d it not realising it wasn’t the full Climate.

A Boxster needs Climate with the roof up - maybe this contributed to the lack of love from past owners.

Assume we are looking for this button? For auto? Why does it say ‘sync’?

Most of the GTS on auto trader don’t have it.

Is climate control. The fact is has a temperature displayed each side would suggest it has it.

Sync is so both sides of the cabin are the same temperature. That is climate control by the way.

What you could buy is only one small factor though. Most people buying cars of this type have had many nice cars in the past and are looking for something specific. What Joe Public thinks in the Waitrose car park is unlikely to be much of a concern. Those who can afford a GTS at £60k could indeed buy an R8, but that doesn't mean to say they actually want one. Look at all the lunatics spending £140k on 20+ year old R34 Skylines when they could buy a pair of R35s for that money.

Porsches look fairly ordinary compared to their contemporaries so they're not going to wow randoms like an R8 is. Similarly, your £100k is also better spent on a 570s than a cooking 911 if you want to look like a superstar. However, given Porsches are held in insanely high regard by so many people, there's clearly more to it than just what engine and exterior you can get for £x.

It looks like a stunning example. Great colour and spec especially with the x73 suspension to sharpen it up even more.

These are actually the only car at the moment that could tempt me out of my Cayman R, just to experience something different. (maybe with a manual box though for my personal preference).

I'd be very interested in Mr Verts view on this as I believe he has owned both before.

As for the question of price - It does feel overpriced, and not convinced its a £60+ model. But the market is mad, its a great low mileage example from an OPC. So will never be cheap.
Yes, I swapped out of a Cayman R and jumped into the GTS. I seem to change my cars a lot, not for any particular reason other than I like to try as many different cars as I can if something takes my fancy.

The R was brilliant, worthy of all the praise it gets, but I wanted something I would get more use of for trips with my better half. I was on the hunt for a V12 Vantage but couldn't find one in the spec I wanted.

The GTS I felt, was a brilliant Porsche. It was on X73 suspension for 20" Turbo wheels and for me was a great combination. I didn't think it was too harsh at all, but then I was used to the 'R' and have always preferred a firmer set up.

The GTS felt a tad larger on the road but it's still a fairly small sports car. The ride and suspension were near perfect on the roads around me. Yes, you lose some steering feel of course but that's about the only fair criticism I could level at the car.

More modern cabin, beautifully trimmed, really comfortable on long journeys, quick, responsive and the noise is fabulous. Some may get a bit tired of the exhaust system, but as it's switchable you can just turn it to stealth mode when you want.

The manual cars do suffer a tad with the gear ratios, being pretty long especially noticeable in 2nd (over 80mph). The PDK 'box for me suited it better and is slightly quicker in the shifts to the first generation.

Overall, I think the GTS is a fabulous modern Porsche. Not as razor sharp as the 'R', but still a brilliant package.

Kept it a year and fancied another change so went for a Spyder...tried the 981 but eventually opted for a 987. Read into that what you will hehe

Done 3600m in 2 months since selling my Cayman R and buying this Boxster GTS. X73 is a non issue for comfort. I can’t speak to values as mine is higher miles but mega spec. What I can say is I have rarely enjoyed a car as much. It’s a good size, plenty quick enough in the real world, makes a great noise, handles superbly and is just brilliant transport.
