GTS and other allocations
Discussion
Order placed for Cayman GTS 4.0 on 9th September 2022. Expected delivery end-Q1/early-Q2 2023 according to OPC. Massive pinch of salt, this is my 3rd new Porsche sports car, and they haven't turned up very near to estimated time so far. I am used to the extended/unexpected wait, it doesn't bother me in the least. My current "daily" base 2.0 Cayman is less than a year old, and I am enjoying it enormously. I also have a first version GT4 in case there's no salt on the roads.
Potential option to swap order for a Cayman GT4 if any allocations become available within timeframe I'm told. Probably of limited interest in my personal circumstances, but who knows? An outside chance if available. I'd love to go for PTS on one of those, but would probably need to sell the 981 GT4, which I am loath to do. It's lovely, and I have bonded with it.
Beginning of this year, the BMW 3 Series plug-in hybrid estate I ordered for my wife turned up 4 months earlier than expected. Never sure how all of this works, or doesn't. But hey! There are cars! I like some of them! Life could be worse!

I called to an OPC yesterday to see some colour combos and while looking at a Boxster a salesperson asked what I was interested in. I just asked the lead time on a BGTS and was told 18months or more which was no surprise. However, unprompted the warning that anything due to be built around then may not get built due to the new model and this was a warning they’d been giving for a while. This fits with my concerns in the original post .
I’m got an M4 that I hoped to keep until the Boxster was due in q1/2 2024 on the original order estimate but I’m thinking now that if I get offered an allocation earlier that I’d better grab it or miss out.
Nearly news seem to be falling - there’s a 25 edition that’s dropped £5k in the last couple of weeks.
Keeping my fingers crossed that everyone with an order gets what they want.

Ordered BGTS Nov 21. Was told due in May '23 Just cancelled as bought a 997.1 as an interim and loving it.
I'd imagine many more will cancel as costs of the car and finance increase.
I think you are right. Another factor maybe a reduction in used prices and perhaps some being sold as a result of financial pressures.I'd imagine many more will cancel as costs of the car and finance increase.

So, after 14 months of waiting for my new BGTS 4.0, I have made the decision to pull the plug and go pre-owned instead. I spotted a vehicle at an OPC with an almost identical colour scheme and spec to my order with only 970 miles on the clock.
While I would have loved a brand new vehicle, the uncertainty over when if ever I would get one (and at what price) meant the final decision was relatively easy (especially given the more than acceptable PX offer for my 981 GTS at a time when there is speculation about used car values dropping).
Ultimately, I figured that life is too short to keep waiting, wondering and hoping when I could be out driving the vehicle now.
Anyone with an order at East London should now be one place nearer the front of the queue.

So have you actually bought it then?
