Hi all,

Curious to know whether anyone has installed any carbon fibre parts to their GT4's to get a more RS look.

I'm quite tempted with the following for mine which I collect Friday but don't want to go too overboard.

Side air intake scoops:

It's not cheap but I can't find many websites that offer these parts.

Its has been done....





You can follow the progress of their development programme here:

They have also done CL hub conversion.

The point is to start off with checking compatibility of OEM 4RS parts with the 'casual' GT4 and then to use these as a basis to develop other component for both GT4 and 4RS. Few things on the plan.

I did actually see this the other day and contacted JCR but the cost for the side air scoops and mirror housings were far more than what I'm willing to pay. I imagine it's because they're OEM GT4 RS parts.

Where have you got these prices from mate and is the air inlet the side air scoop? That's quite dear if it's per side.

Are they real “ carbon “ presume fibre ? Or just bits of different plastic to copy ie a style .Wrap , paint effect or what ever .

Sorry if I have pricked a few balloons gaining clarity.

If you're referring to my original post mate, I assumed they're real carbon fibre... Especially at those prices.

This is what it says on their website:

"Checked OEM parts only, improved with real carbon fiber in our handwork manufactory under highest quality standards."

I think what they're doing is the same as what Topaz can do for OEM parts:

Have spoken to a few Porsche specialists about replacing that side air scoop and they've all said it's a b*tch to take off. It's not only clipped in but stuck on with 3M tape so quite difficult to remove.

In two minds whether to go down this route now.

I think this has been discussed before, but CFRP isn't solid carbon fibre if that's what you're expecting. And "carbon-weave finish" doesn't sound like it either...

EDIT: I'm not sure if CFRP is just the full name for what we know as carbon fibre as used in F1 chassis etc. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will come along!

Not expecting full carbon fibre mate. It's just for the aesthetics. My car is black and I think the carbon fibre weave looks good on certain panels such as the side air scoops and wing mirrors.

Clipped and screwed. Sometimes there is also a gasket/seal… certainly was in 981 GT4

So it’s not pre-preg as per Formula 1 or Konigsegg etc etc.
But it is a real form of carbon fibre material… not just veenered/covered plastic.

So it’s carbon reinforced plastic .Not autoclaved carbon weave the F1 stuff .

A advertising play on words .Just adds style only .

It's all Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), whether it's wet layup, pre-preg, and whatever curing method is used. (Autoclave, vacuum oven, or blind hope in order of preference). I'd be surprised but not shocked if those RS parts are all wet layup, as it's much easier to get consistent results with sheets that are pre-cut from pre-preg. Dry carbon can be horrible to work with in wet layup. Too slippery! For what they are charging, really ought to be pre-preg carbon epoxy.

The variables are really just the weave (which can be a lovely "twill" weave for looks, but seldom used for structural purposes), the resin matrix it is set into (tends to be epoxy for most proper applications, never got involved in decorative carbon composites, but I'm guessing polyester resins would be easier, cheaper and might work), and the manufacturing method.

I spent a motor sport engineering lifetime hating decorative carbon as wasteful. Somehow I now have 2 Caymans with carbon dash inserts, and another order waiting for an allocation that will get the same. I feel totally hypocritical, but it does look great! Easy enough to distinguish between polyester and epoxy resins with a flame or heat-softening test. Which I am not about to do, because I really don't care, looks fine.

I’ve gone for the full carbon interior trim on my car. Does anyone know whether this will be more hard wearing than the standard trim?

I’ve owned BMW’s in the past with piano black interior trims and they’ve always ended up getting scratched.

I've had no issues with any of mine. The GT4 is coming up to 7 years old, (but less than 17k miles on it). The carbon dash and door trims still gleam like new.
