The OP has made clear that he's considering a range of options, of which the 944 is one, and we're broadening the discussion to cover some of the others.

So hopefully it will stay here.

(Not that it has anything to do with me! I often wonder why stuff gets moved...)
Absolutely, good discussion should defo stay in GG, was just wondering!

Yeah I do like sleepers, a 20VT converted mk2 golf gti would be cool,
Just be worried about quality of a conversion? BAM engine would be cool.

Or maybe a VR6

Cant get a R32 for that price not one I'd want to own, and they are high target for theft, don't like the civic.

The trouble with any 944, is that you need to buy it with the benefit of years of experience/pain/expense behind you.

This makes them a difficult buy for a new owner, as most have issues of some sort, usually expensive and probably undisclosed and unnoticable.

Yes, and why I gave up, there are a lot with a 20VT dumped in and lashed up which is a lot different to a proper conversion with brakes, suspension, engine mounts, clutch. gearbox, bushes etc etc.

Love my 1991 S2. Over the past 14 months, small rust sorted to bottom of wings, recon wishbones and new battery. Oil service, tie rods, power steering cooler and return pipe. Stainless exhaust and de-cat too.
Belts were done before I picked her up, clutch still good and it feels and goes as tight as a drum.
164000 miles strong, less than £200 to insure with 5000 miles per year and I paid £2.5k in march of 2011.

If I sold, I think I'd get that back or perhaps a little more now it's rather tidier. Maintenance is key. They're cheap but still posses small super car running costs at times.

Did the decat make much difference ?

Not really. The stainless system sounds much nicer though. De cat was more a choice because the old cat was knackered and a new one was very expensive.

Here's mine....

I set myself a fun challenge of spending £1.5k pa on a car plus the previous years sale proceeds to build a fund and drive the cars I always wanted. I bought this in year 2, 1989 2.7. I wanted a S2 but when I looked at this, condition overruled my want for an S2. Mrs Dunk can drive it, kids fit in the back and running costs aren't worth worrying about. My only issue is that I like it so much it's stalled my plans to move on to my next desire.

No affiliation to the sale, but this could quite possibly be the nicest 944 turbo for sale in a long time.

I will be selling my 944 turbo s silver rose. I inherited it so its not my thing. The car only has 30k on clock as has been not used since 2003 only to turn over engine and along road every 6 months etc.

Its in good condition garaged from 2end owner my father since 1995 owner before was enthusiast so also probably garaged.

Open to sensible offers more of a collector's car as due to low mileage and good condition should go up in value.

Have not really had chance to prep for sale yet but will post some pictures if can work out how to do it

If you email tom@911virgin.com and mention Imi put you in touch he'll be happy to give you a fair appraisal and offer if its a goodun. He's specifically looking for one for me. Really good firm to deal with. You'll obviously need to get the car down to him though wink
