Looking to upgrade the brakes on my 924 S as they seem to run out of braking on track, quickly getting juddery, as demonstrated at around 3:00 > http://youtu.be/2l1oMsVUzVM
Running standard callipers, disks, EBC Red Stuff pads and the ATE racing blue fluid.

I think I need more racy pads, braided hoses and some ventilation. In the moments before it all goes a little spongy / juddery I think the brakes should be up to the job, so not thinking I need anything too drastic.

I have checked through the Front Engined Porsches forum but cannot see this has been covered before!

for track RS29 or PFC08 seem a good choice.

I've never heard anyone say that EBC were better than other manufacturers like Pagid, Mintex, Ferodo etc so I'd suggest swapping them, and getting some cooling ducts into the discs as a first off.

There is a wilwood brake kit currently on the bay, specifically for 924s and early 944.

I have a full set of 993 turbo big reds - discs, pads and calipers if you're interested in making a decent offer!

If you are, and if go forward with it Colin Belton at 9M does very good billet adaptors, if you need them.

mrdemon, thanks but I don't think they come in my sizes... Pagids could be the way forwards though.

thegoose, I will check those all out, see which racy ones fit.

LarJammer, I was so tempted by those on TIPEC but sods law had other plans... other 924 S suffered a seized calliper (replaced) and other car a shock leaking all with 24hours of asking. If I had your engine I'd probably be more resourceful / less sensible, but with my 160bhp they're probably overkill... for now.

aceparts, as awesome as that would be, as above, a bit much for my current setup. Not even sure they'd fit! Certainly require new wheels.

I've got 993 turbo big blacks on the front of my 968. They needed adaptors - they work ok with 17" cup 2s.

They'll bolt straight on to M030 hubs Paul. Theyre the same as Big Blacks except that theyre upside down. You can fix this by inverting the pipes and the bleed nipples.

If you don't have 928S4 calipers already fitted then you can fit the Big Reds using a radial mount adapter whichll cost about £100 for the pair.

Thanks Simon. Mine is a 91 car so it has the Big Blacks ? TBH I'm only interested in the 993TT stoppers for the bling and if they are in VGC, I think the discs are quite expensive new.

Theyre 928S4 calipers, so theyre bigger than the Brembos on my car, but smaller than Big Blacks - medium blacks, if you like. Big Reds are the same size as BBs but theyre designed to be mounted ahead of the wheels which is why theyre upside down when theyre mounted on the trailing edge of the hub on our cars.

I have the calipers on the right. You have the calipers on the left, from the 928S4. We are talking about the calipers in the middle which are fundamentally similar whether theyre red or black. If theyre black then theyre 928GTS calipers.

Disc cost depends on which application you opt for. Two part drilled discs will look smarter but cost a fortune. 928-derived discs will look plain but cost far less.

Good pic smile. 6 or 7 years ago I almost bought a red car that was was Turbo S spec, it had been fitted with 993TT brakes with the drilled discs. I remember the guy moaning about the cost of the discs.

When I bought the big black calipers about 7 years ago I got a great deal on the calipers and drilled disks from OPC Exeter - I'd be inclined to go for undrilled ones now, given the price difference.

Kind of wrong...

928GTS discs cost an absolute fortune - about £200 each, 993 2-parts discs are not suitable as the offset is too small, which leaves us with the 964 Turbo S drilled discs, which fit perfectly and only cost £150 each...

That's what happens when you rush! I can waffle about Porsche calipers all day...

You can use the 993 discs and theyre relatively light, but you will need to use specially manufactured hats to give you the 5mm back. Someone like Ian Godney at Godspeed will be able to supply these.

Off the top of my head, I think that you can use the original centres if youre using BBs or BRs on a car which doesn't have M030 hubs as the 5mm can be allowed for in the radially mounting adapter.

If youre buying genuine discs from an OPC then I agree about the 965 3.6l parts (351.045.00 & 351.046.00) being the best buy.

If youre looking for aftermarket replacements then Im sure that GTS Sebros were the best buy, but I cant find a price for them now to use as an example.
