Yes hopefully we'll see it out on the road rather than tucked away in a Carcoon.

A low price 5-speed GTS has emerged at Strasse

http://www.strasse.co.uk/cars.asp?car_id=351&p...
There is a reason for the low price - non-original wheels, red calipers, engine bay and the bodywork look tired even in the pictures, white indicator lenses, dodgy 1980s steering wheel. Another thing which irks me no end - £50k asking and a basic thing like the jump post cover is missing. It is only a sub £10 part. Or should I expect it only on a £90k car.

Being a 1992 - what are the chances it burns oil? Also, I bet it will be hiding something under the plastic sill covers. It could be the basics for a nice moving resto though.

Fair point. On the flip side, I bought my 550 Maranello from Dennis Bergkamp. Being a lightweight fit bloke with, apparently, severe OCD tendencies, it didn't look like anyone had ever sat in it!
His brother probably drove it more miles than he did.
Interesting. Was his brother around in London when DB was at Arsenal?
DB was afraid of flying, I believe his brother did a lot of the driving to European games. May not have been in the 550 though.

Yes that's right. Car had only done 8k miles when I bought it few years ago, so can't have been to Europe too many times I guess.

Pretty sure I saw your car in the Arsenal player's car park at London Colney many years ago when I was lucky enough to have a "behind closed doors"...there was a 550 with a "DB 10" or something like that in the car park. Split rim alloys IIRC ?
That makes sense, a good friend of mine used to host the squad's peak-performance classes at nearby Champney's. He said there was usually a sprinkling of 550's and 928's arriving in the car park. Mind you, this was back when they won the double !

Came in as a part exchange. Straight through an MOT and off to the auction at the end of the month. Sounded bloody good too

I was fortunate enough to be working at a Porsche main dealer in 1994 and we were at the back-end of the early 90's recession. Unsold 964s were sitting around at the back of Porsche GB and nothing was flying out the door. We had a Grand Prix White 928 GTS manual in the showroom on sale-or-return from Porsche GB. It had been for sale for about 18-months at the time at about £74,000.00 and had been around a few dealers in an attempt to sell it. Automatic 928s were hard to sell back then and a manual 928 was as popular as a fart in a space suit.

That does indeed look good!

As an aside, I was at the local 928 specialist last week, and the owner of the most spectacular black GT was there with his car. Nice bloke, we had a good chat. Apparently his car was originally spec'ed as all black - black paint, black leather, and black Cup wheels. Those wheels were sold to the Middle East by the previous owner for a not insubstantial sum, and silver Cups are in their place, but must have looked a bit special I reckon.

And look at how the tide has turned - a 928 5-spd commands a significant premium over an equivalent Auto car. 964s also enjoying their day in the sun, having been the Ginger Step Child of the air-cooled brigade...

I was offered a 964 for not a lot of money 10 years ago, I declined because I thought it was ugly as sin and relatively expensive to look after. Silly prices for them today hasn't changed my opinion of them.

I have always liked them - but have always seen them as the 2nd or 3d car - definitely not a one-car-to-do-all as my 928GT was back in 2003-2007

I've always liked the looks of the 993, but I'd have the latest 4S 911 that 993 money would buy today.

Depends what for - as a one and only car - yes, for sure.

As a fun car for Sunday blats - no way - an early aircooled car is 10x more engaging...

I'd still have the later car, I wouldn't be as precious about it and could drive it accordingly.

Nice looking car, I wonder if it will continue to be an ornament.
