New arrival last weekend - not even cleaned yet frown
But I'm very happy to be back in the 944 gang, 14 years since my last one.
Welcome back to the fold smile is it an S2 or a Turbo?

Glad to see it's still getting used Ed! Any recent changes to it? Or are you just using and abusing?

Depends how recent Rich... last year it had some rust repairs, new clutch, fuel lines & rear axle re-bushed. (Solid mounts make it a tad noisier but maybe slightly more connected..). Hoping I don't need anything more doing than regular servicing. I have a GTS lights kit to fit at some point, but they will need a bit of fettling to sort, maybe I'll have some time during August. Car is over 240k miles now (well there are some original bits left.. )

I'm planning on doing plenty more trackdays this year - might even come along & watch you race sometime smile

Looks like you had a great time at Spa - what an amazing circuit it is! Hope the damage to the engine isn't too bad

Good stuff, sounds good! Glad it's going well.

Thanks, had a great weekend despite the engine issues. Well worth the drive over there! Hoping to pull the motor out on Sunday and will go from there, but I've got a fair idea of a build spec (dry liners, raised floor block, Wossner 100mm pistons, Molnar rods with a bearing upgrade, NA head with 951 valvetrain, 9R cam). Although a 16v build is very tempting, but I'd like the car out again this year so that's not going to happen if I get carried away!! Ideally I'd like to do Donnington in September, so on your doorstep. But we'll see...

Blimey that sounds expensive - being a superstar DJ must be lucrative smile

Let's hope it's only minor damage.

btw have you looked at the rod bearing mod that some chap in the states does? I think it was Michael Mount, who is a top notch engine builder (Would love one of his dry sump, throttle bodied n/a motors smile )

Unfortunately my DJ'ing exploits barely cover my bar tab at the end of a night laugh

But yes it's the Michael Mount bearing mod using Clevite '77 H' bearings I'm planning on going with, only like Blade7 suggests I'm going to speak to a few machine shops over here. It seems like a fairly simple case of line-boring through a torqued up rod and milling in new key-ways for the bearings. Obviously tolerance is key, but that shouldn't be a problem for a decent engine shop. The bearing part numbers are listed on the Rennlist thread fortunately smile

A full engine build has always been on the cards; it's just come along a bit earlier than anticipated!..

If I was rebuilding a 2.5 I'd definitely do the offset ground crank, Mitsubishi rod thing.
For a road car, yes. For a race engine that spends its time constantly between 4-6.5k rpm on WOT I'm pretty convinced it's not a sensible idea. The stresses on a race engine are far greater compared with road use, so I don't like the idea of reducing the journal size and removing the factory rolled fillet radius and surface treatment... I have thought long and hard about going for a 2.8 build, but I don't think I'm going there (this time any way!).

I'm quite impressed that you're constantly on WOT, including while you're on the brakes laugh.

laugh OK maybe 'constantly' was a poor choice of word!

But on the 2.8 thing, maybe if a 3.0 crank came up I might do it. But finding a crank and a decent damper for sensible money seems tricky! A pal of mine is going down this route (using a crank he bought from you Ed), so we could maybe even do a combined order for pistons... But its unlikely!

I'm speaking out loud now, but I think I'd sooner keep it simple at this stage smile

Really sorry, I completely forgot I'd put a pic up!

It's a late S2 - bridge spoiler, catalytic converter, deep bolster grey half leather. 119k miles. Standard except for a stainless rear exhaust section.

Very happy with it and starting to gel.

Just going through some odds and ends to make it a decent daily - wiper linkages, heater blower, heater flaps, improve the driving position, refurb the PAS pump - then it'll be in proper daily use spin

It would be nice to have a more dedicated area for the transaxle cars however here is my 87 924S which has been stripped inside sound deadening removed and just the carpets put back, rebuilt mechanicals, fixed seat, quick release wheel and spacer to get if off my knees, 6 point Willans harness, Safety devices roll cage, plumbed in extinguisher, D90's and AD08R's etc. Still work in progress and penciled in next year for a blown 944 Turbo engine to be fitted.
