So, what coupe from say the last 10 years betters the handling/performance, and is less than £25k used. I'm thinking 997 4S, BMW M or Audi TT-RS.

A 944/968 handles more nicely than a gen 1 997 C4S. The later car obviously far quicker but not as nice to drive. Gen 2 997 C4S a miles better chassis. The car stays rwd more of the time and 4wd software less clumsy.

I don't know much about them, but a quick google suggests the gen 2 997 is much less susceptible to expensive engine problems.

Thus far the gen 2 has proved to be head and shoulders above the gen 1 in that dept.

If you're at about 25K, could consider a GT86/BRZ with mods to taste? NA tuned, super or turbocharged options. I guess it depends if you can live with the idea of a modified car, and the lower rent interior, but it would give you options from 220 BHP (about the limit for NA tune), 260 off a supercharger, or 280+ with a turbo.

I spent a fun afternoon a while back speculatively planning about 6K of naturally aspirated mods from Fensport that would leave you with an absolute weapon. smile

I'd rather have a standard TT-RS.

Golf R probably does everything better than a 944

Yes, but is it a Coupe?

Its betters the handling that makes your question a difficult one. Have you thought about a C63 Coupe? Its handling is fun. Amazing amount of car for the money.

There are a few issues with the Golf though:

-they aren’t interesting
-looks horrendously dull
-generally driven by complete prats

hehe

A GT86 was my first thought as well.

Never really fancied one. A 997 still makes more sense.

The Fiesta ST got better reviews.

Better at what though? Not sure I’ve seen a bad review of the GT86 tbh.

Read the comparison tests? I bought the Fiesta for her indoors. And for a lot less money.
