Connect a Hard Drive to Macan USB

In my previous BMW & Mercedes I used a hard drive to store music. The one i was using conked out so my IT guy replaced it with a Western Digital My Passport Portable SSD 512 GB. It is a replica in terms of data, but my Macan won’t read it whereas the old one was fine.
Has anyone got any clues ?

Possibly the USB port cannot deliver enough power to drive the SSD. I have exactly the same device and it works fine on my Laptop but not in my 997 GT3. So use USB memory stick, which is fine.

Not that I am aware of, its a 2019 Macan S with standard PCM
