Hi all,

Looking at buying either a 4.8 GTS or 4.8 Turbo - Gen 1 facelift.. Obviously I would prefer the turbo but the life span of these units are a concern. Okay I know that how these engines and oil changes are treated will influence the life span of a set of turbos but with everything being equal how long should turbos last ?

With the GTS the engine is NA meaning I dont have to worry about them, but who doesnt love a turbo :-) I read that to replace these turbos the engine needs to come out, however Ive just read an article about a chap that did them in situ.

So what are the owners experiences with turbos life span, issues ? Not interested in reading replies about how these cars are expensive so I should plan to replace them, or if you cant afford the turbos then dont buy, all that usual stuff. I just need to hear from owners and experiences :-)

No replies. No worries.

I keep flipping back and forth on whether to get a 957 Turbo or GTS. GTS is turbo less so reliablitiy wise should be less problems in the future but doesnt have that turbo power.

Be interested to hear from 4.8 turbo or 4.8 GTS owners.

A big group on FB for Porsche Cayenne's some of the USA ones have done 250-300K with no major work. Never heard a peep about Turbo replacements though.

PS. Thermostat replacement on the V8 is a pig. Mine was £250+ quids worth of gaskets + the stat! & hours of labour.
