I’m looking for one of these, probably 2018-20 and max £40k ish.
Are they considered a safe buy or are there horror stories about them.
So a couple of questions to start,
Is the standard Porsche security adequate.
What options would be considered a must.
Is the 30 mile electric range realistic
Real world mpg.
Best wheel tyre size combination to go for, and anything specific to avoid?

I had one of these exact cars for a while (2020), I'll try and answer the questions first:

In terms of safe bet, it's a high quality car - complicated yes but with a warranty I wasn't necessarily worried any more than other cars of similar value

Porsche security - can't really comment living in a village though wasn't worried about leaving it any more than any other car
If I got another hybrid panny (I probably will) it must have: Sports chrono, 20 inch wheels, rws, PDCC. Would really like it to have: burmeister
Electric range is 18 miles in winter, 25 in summer
MPG of course depends - I used to do school run on electric only which was brilliant. Of course needs charging up every night. Any journey below 100 miles can be near 40mpg IIRC though above that all bets are off - it's a big, really heavy car with a twin turbo v6 after the battery has run out
Wheel size - I'd never have one with anything more than 20 inch wheels, see below

It was a really good car but not a drivers car. It felt heavy, really heavy and it didn't like to turn in. The experience of it got me in to a Panny GTS with rws which is night-and-day a different driving experience. I hate using the v8 for the school run though so I may well go back to a hybrid though it will 100% have rws and PDCC... a hybrid will never drive like a GTS though.

My hybrid had 21 wheels and they crashed awful on the backroads where I live, even in comfort mode. Part of this is the weight of the car I believe and how stiff the air suspension has to be to compensate. My GTS on 20's is a different world even though that is a sportier setup even in comfort

EDIT - I got mine tuned by FVD in Germany which took it to 4S ehybrid type levels of performance which was nice and made it feel unique. Though it was still a point-and-squirt car unlike the GTS

Thanks for that Kenny, really appreciate it.
Can you charge overnight on a 13amp plug or would it require a dedicated charger?

Yes I charged on a standard granny socket fitted outside - 7 hours per night

Oh I should have added to my must-have options - sports seats.

Bought an ex demo mid last year

Solid and well built as you’d expect. Quick car, but big and heavy.

It has WWS which is great.

Can’t fault it really but we bought it as a high speed long distance cruiser.

i think ‘m done with the brand - mine has developed a coolant leak which means an 18 month old car with 25k on the clock needs a whole fking engine removal to replace a pipe, i dread to think of the cost if it wasn’t under warranty. On paper it’s a great car but for a £100k car it’s crap, I might as well save myself £40k next time and buy a 3 series touring

Think there was a light mid life refresh in 2020 to be aware of.

I’ve found mine pretty good. Interior is a really nice place to be, quick and secure but as noted above it is a heavy car. I’ve found the ride to be very good over potholes etc, and that’s coming from a ffrr, wonder if that was tweaked in the mid life refresh? Not had any problems but I’d be wary of running one without a warranty.

I find it will do better than 30mpg without battery at a 70mph cruise, obviously drops a bit above that. Hybrid is much better integrated than in my ffrr, brake feel is consistent and good. Feels very planted in bad weather.

Main downside for me is that the boot really isn’t that big.

With so many options on these specs vary hugely, so you may struggle to find your perfect spec and need to compromise a little.

Struggle to think what I’d change it for, I absolutely don’t need the extra power of the turbos etc, and the electric only running is very nice and keeps economy decent. Nothing in estate form has the level of interior, overall quality and smooth performance combined with fairly subtle looks.
