So, this is how a classic 911 in Rally spec looks like eh? Hardcore.

In light of the unexpectedly high price that the 2.7RS Replica was recently bid to ...

What do we think of this ?

https://www.strasse.co.uk/cars.asp?car_id=442&...

It is based on an original 3.0l ... and modified smile

Looks like a bit of a half arsed attempt to me....I really don’t like back dates. I think if you’re going to go the RS replica route you need to start with a pre 73 car.

Considering the huge amount of work done on it seems superb value for money if you like backdates.Love Guards but not on pre-impact bumper 911s..My concern on this is whether or not its had a full glass out respray otherwise it could prove to be an expensive purchase.

To be fair, a good body is the best start and the only difference on the 3.0l which itself is desirable, was the aluminium cast rear suspension arms and impact bumper fittings of the 2.7 ...

Nobody is claiming it to be a real retro ... it's running on carbs, but it is most certainly modified and it looks like a 2.7RS ... On the bodywork question ... who would do that much work on a bad body ?

I'll bet it goes ... Dave used to spanner for Jack Tordoff (JCT600) when he rallied 2.7RS and 2.0RS in the day so mechanically there shouldn't be better.

It took my fancy anyway smile

Looks like a backdated SC to me rather than an RS. But it's probably fun and had a lot of money spent, certainly more than the asking price! On the bad body question, yes there are people who would do that much work on a ste body. I made that mistake once!

Yes it looks like a backdated SC to me as well rather than an RS but then that’s subjective. That’s what I was referring to rather than the mechanics

This is the worry..Assuming its had a recent top top end respray its seems fantastic value..However i agree with you and Cheib that its best to judge it as a duck tailed 3.0SC and not an RS replica..FWIW i prefer the Williams Crawford one but Guards not my favourite colour with a duck tail.

This is much better in GR IMO and unashamedly a hot rod 3L SC with no pretensions of being a 73' RS..Nearly phoned up about it however the sheer distance in the current situation made my rethink.

That looks like an interesting car to me ! Would put some Porsche specific seats in it.

I looked at that one for a while too! Wasn't sure about it as a few people I trusted didn't think it was all that and I couldn't go all that way to see it for myself. Agree on the seats though. That seemed to be the only black mark for me. Rest looks pretty well judged even if it's not completely original / authentic etc.

It's a shame it's been reserved already as I'd have gone to check it out.

Look at it as a 1980 lightweight 911 hot rod and its very appealing..It seems to have had more done mechanically then others i've looked at especially with the Carbon 12 brakes and exe-t suspension..Bet its absolutely amazing to drive.

Gah! Wished I'd spoken to you first as that's what I was thinking as well. Too late now....

I'd not give up completely if it is of interest to you. Many sales seem to fall through.

I went to look at this car, just after the restrictions were lifted a little. It was really very nice. A few things needed doing, which would have been done prior to purchase. Drove very sweetly too. I was very tempted, but slept on it and changed my mind. It had done 200k miles (approximately - history was a little vague on this point) and so decided against - well that and some marital disagreement (would have meant selling my Carrera T). Surprisingly disappointed when I discovered it had sold. One that got away?
