Hello has anyone else had this problem or know what's the best plan of action?

I posted this on the Porsche general thread but had no luck so thought id have a go here.

The roof on my 88 cabriolet folded down at the push of the rocker switch as it should I made sure it was in its final position before setting off for a drive when I got back home I pushed the switch but all I can hear is a click coming from the rear of the cabin when I push the button.

Any ideas I have checked the fuse and gone through the procedure I always have done?

Since writing this I have checked the 2 micro switches and adjusters they seem to be working, that is the button is pushed in when the roof is ion final closed posision'

Thank you

Rod.

Hi Rod

I've got a 993 cab not a 3.2 . But judging by the antiquated mechanics in the roof of mine. I don't suppose they change them very much over the years.

You mention the click coming from the back of the car. Does it continuously click when you press the button or just a single click?

If it is continuously clicking that would suggest the button is activating the motor which drives the gearing either side to raise the roof back up.

I've had to work on my cab roof a few times and it's a fairly simple (albeit a bit Heath Robinson) system when you get to know it.

There seem to be some fairly regular things that go wrong

One of them is shortening of the drive cables from the motor to the roof drive gears on either side of the car. Doesn't sound like this is your problem, though, because normally only one drive cable stops working and the other one keeps working which twists the roof badly and can cause significant damage. It may be that the motor itself has failed in your case, which is probably a better option
